How many remember the air hose laying across the pavement that rang a bell when you drove over it at full service stations?

An older cousin and I were driving from our grandmothers house in southeast Ohio to his mothers house near Columbus. He had a CB in his Plymouth/Dodge? Satellite. Already served one tour in the Vietnam war. He got on that CB like we were on a recon mission, get off the main roads and hauled arse. I will admit he scared me, but the sound of that Holly 4 barrel/Hooker headers opening up was magical.

The entrance arch to the old Pontchartrain Beach by Bayou St. John in New Orleans, built in the 1920s, before the amusement park was moved to the location at the end of Elysian Fields Avenue. At time of this photograph (1939) the new Pontchartrain Beach had opened, and this old location was being demolished.
