It’s billed as a Land Rover Defender replacement.

It looks like they built a serious vehicle. BMW straight six engine, gasoline and diesel variants, beam axles, ladder frame chassis.
Magna Steyr, which is responsible for the Geländewagen, did a lot of the design work.
It looks like a nice antidote to the life style vehicles that JLR sells.

I require credit for picking up the slack of OP's absolute laziness and disregard for the waste of time clicking on a link may cause.

Needs a cattle scoop for "protesters", but I would drive the hell out of it.

I’m looking forward to seeing the interior shots. You’re supposed to be able to “hose it out” to clean it.
That was also true of the original Range Rover.
Durability and functionality are a major marketing point. The front wings and the roof are designed to be load bearing.

Looks like something I could have bought in 1986

They’re saying 30,000 to 45,000 pounds.
I assume they’ll be less expensive here in the States. But that would be a starting price of 37,000 USD.
It’s a brand new vehicle from a brand new manufacturer. But they are using proven vendors, they spent the money, and Magna was probably iterating on the work they’ve done before.

Yes it is.
And that’s why I’m excited.

That's actually the Range Rover crowd that you had just described.
