Never been into the Hue bulbs myself, but I have a buddy that likes to spend his cash on tech and replaced his entire house with Hue. It was legit. He has a nice place and what he could do with his lighting was impressive.

Not for me, but damn it was first class

You pair the Hue system with Alexa, IFTTT, Stringify, and some ingenuity and you can do some fricking amazing things.

Would you like the light near the door you use to leave the house to turn blue in the morning if there's rain predicted to let you know to grab your umbrella as you're walking out the door?

Mine does.

Want your lights to flash when the pizza leaves the restaurant on its way to your house so you know that it's time to put some goddamned pants on? Yep. That happens.

$200 for 4 light bulbs? Kill yourself.

Why would I do that? I can afford to pay $200 for 4 bulbs simply because it fricking pleases me. Life's pretty good, poor. 'twould be a shame to end it, though I'd totally understand if you view your terrible smart light free existence differently.

Poor? Or just smart with money? $200 for 4 lightbulbs is irresponsible. Unless you are "the" O-T baller. If so, then I bow to you.

Alexa does all that shite already. I don't need synchronized lights to confirm it for me.

Glad you enjoy it. Two hundo can buy me a lot of bourbon though.

Ignorance abounds in this thread.

1. OP paid 139 for 4 bulbs plus the hub not 200 and was sharing the deal.
2. Some people don't mind paying what you'd spend on a single nice dinner out for a smart home kit with bulbs that will last 20 years and can automatically turn purple and gold whenever LSU is on TV or various shades of oranges for Thanksgiving or in my case every light turns red when any smoke alarm goes off ala Battlestar Galactica or green when the mailman opens the mailbox or the one by the door turns red in the evening if any door isn't locked or a pool gate was left open or they turn yellow 10 minutes before the school bus arrives and red 5 minutes before (and back to white afterwards) or they turn blue if it starts to rain or they flash 3x if an Alexa timer goes off and I didn't hear it because I'm in some other part of the house or they automatically dim when I play a movie with Plex and get bright when I pause it or when the movie is over or can turn bright shop white when I need extra light and back to soft white when I'm done.. Oh and of course Alexa can control them too and you can ask Alexa to dim the lights or turn them on or off or to set them to any color you want like sage green or dark blue just by saying it.

Just because you lack imagination or would rather blow 150 on fireworks or a couple bottles of whiskey don't scoff at those of us who are having a blast with our lighting system.

Hue includes strip lighting, floor spotlights, candelabra bulbs, regular white bulbs, etc all of which are well under $100 because once you have the hub, additional lights are very reasonable.

I have given starter kit as gifts to 8 people last year and every single person absolutely loves them and says it's the best thing they've done to their house. They've all ended purchasing more lights.

But hey the OT is too smart and cool for that because "$200 for 4 lights is irresponsible"

Eta y'all might try venturing onto the tech board every now and then. We're doing cool stuff over there

You nerds have issues. And too much time on your hands.

When the Cylons reveal themselves, I’m not gonna have my house turn on me. You metro’s are slaves to the machine gods already.

Im great with a light switch when I need light and one chandelier I could dim but never do. I like to see my food.

You people have issues.

The mailman wasn't real keen on the little devices inside the mailbox with the blinking red led the first time he delivered mail after I installed it.

Can those bulbs light up to tell you when to use some damn punctuation every now and then?

Holy run-on sentence Batman. Cool info though.

Lowes has the Sylvania Lightly white wifi BR30s for 75% off. Basically they changed the name of them to Sylvania Plus and they are getting rid of the old packaging. Same lights though.

I bought 52 of them. Store pickup is best. They looked at me funny.

LINK

I have the Hue in my living room - 8 bulbs. I think I found the starter pack on Ebay for about the same price you paid. I don't need the color throughout the house. But I am picking up your deal for my front porch. Will make them red and green for Xmas and call it a day.

Try AliExpress - if you don't mind buying Chinese. Most items don't take weeks anymore if you're concerned about shipping.
