People act like this shite is rocket science.
To be fair, the orders could be more clear. "Don't reach for it then" gives a lot of gray area for things you can do and still get shot.
Again, I don't really blame the office at that point, but the situation could have been handled better.

Why did he have a gun? It got him killed.
No it didn't.
Other things being equal, him reaching around after being told not to is what got him killed.
I suppose officers can just start giving everyone they come into contact with the benefit of the doubt.
If anyone in here was in the same position you would have absolutely shot him.

Nobody in here would keep standing immediately in front of a guy in that scenario.
You can extend your "you don't know what he's doing" concept to everyday carriers, but you need to add in that factor.

The cop was never in danger. He's just a pussy with a badge. Body cam footage would show exactly how much of a pussy he is.

Stupid and a pussy? Prayers sent.

I think it's also absurd that cops perceive threats from family pets and gun them down to avoid getting scratched up by a golden retriever.
My job is not to "take bites" from your dog....sorry.
In the scope of my job, if your dog attacks me and I think it is gonna injure....to bad....my health is more important than your dog.

I don't know what the guy was reaching for, but Why inform the officer you have a firearm if you're intended to pull it out and start blasting?
You don't know people. I already don't trust complete strangers right off the bat and I certainly don't trust them if they tell me they have a gun.
Again, everyone acts like they would have just given the benefit of the doubt to an individual, who knowingly has a gun, starts reaching around after you told him not to.

There could have been better direction given by the officer. Maybe a keep your hands on the wheel or something, but it all happened very quickly and the cop doesn't know you are reaching for you wallet and not the firearm.
Exactly.
Watching that and thinking the officer is a cold-blooded murderer is asinine, but so is the notion it was a textbook traffic stop.

He was told not to pull out the gun. He said he would have to pull it out. He was told not to pull it out again, then he got shot.
Telling him something like "don't move" or "put your hand on the dashboard" etc could have spared his life. Telling someone not to pull out the gun =/= telling someone not to move.

Your health is no more important than any other person on this planet. You pull a gun to shoot a dog, how in the hell are people supposed to know you aren't going to shoot them?

Castille's weapon. Why did he have a gun?
He got the gun because he had a young child and lived in an area with rampant drug and other illegal activity.

It got him killed.
No, failing to follow his training in obtaining his permit got him killed. Inform, keep hands visible, and offer to let the officer disarm you. This is covered ad nauseam in any CCP class I have ever attended.

We have a sick unhealthy obsession with guns in this country.
I assume you form this opinion because of gun violence. What if I told you 90-95% of gun violence is committed by people who don't go through the proper protocols to obtain the weapon so no gun legislation will prevent them?
I agree, so in this case it wouldn't matter.
Here's my solution:
Decriminalize all drugs and stop locking up non-violent offenders.
BUT, if anyone is caught with an illegal weapon, impose mandatory 20-year sentences. Second offense is life.
We lock up people for the wrong reasons.

If you go into my backyard chasing a suspected burglar and my lab charges you, how about you act like a fricking adult and kick it first?
I don't want to go too far down the dog wormhole here, but your point is exactly the one I'm arguing against.
"Regardless of what I'm doing or what it has to do with you, if I perceive even slight injury as a possibility...sucks for you."
That's the kind of shite (usually the product of dim-witted people) I'm advocating against.

Sure
But when you perceive a risk and your heart rate and blood pressure shoot up...sometimes communication becomes hard.

About the only thing you can do is not let that guy be a cop. He had no bearing and no sense of discretion in that shooting. He had the draw on the guy and could have given orders well before firing. A big part of being in law enforcement is understanding that your life may at time be put in jeopardy. He is a coward and doesn't deserve to wear a uniform.
Just wondering what background do you have to make this statement?
Long story short, turn on your interior lights, leave your hands on the steering wheel or dashboard in plain view, you inform the LEO, let the officer give directions (usually to exit the vehicle) to disarm you. It is part of every single concealed carry course.

OK, so the cop doesn't shoot and Philando draws his weapon and shoots the cop at point blank range. Then what?
Hate it happened; hate all killings happen. But the cop had no idea Philando was NOT going to shoot him.
