I mentioned to a friend that I had noticed a burnt toast smell in the past month and it seemed faint but noteworthy. I ruled out any odors in the house and then didn’t notice it again until a few days ago. So, I googled “burning smell in nose” and Phantosmia explanations popped up. Diagnosis can be as simple as a sinus issue, perhaps possibly Covid related, or as severe as a brain tumor, Parkinson’s disease, depression, or stroke.
My fiend had experienced this odd burning smell on an inconsistent basis and has scheduled a doc appt. I’m awaiting on her report.
I’d be interested if anyone on the OT had experienced anything like this.

In before:
My dog’s farts
The office restroom
Construction site port-a-potty
The nearby landfill
MIL’s breath…….

I get that every so often. I liken it more to the smell of burnt radiator fluid or something. For some reason I've always associated it with COVID.

No, but I’ve heard of epileptics having similar olfactory issues before having seizures. I think that I’m remembering that correctly.

I've always heard smelling burnt toast is a sign of a stroke. I've never looked it into it, though.

I get that but it smells like smoke. Usually wood smoke, sometimes pipe tobacco smoke. I have chronic sinus problems so it's probably that. I've had it for yeas and AFAIK I'm not dead yet so I'm guessing not a brain tumor.

I use to have a lingering smell and taste when I had a moustache. After cunninglingus. It was a flavor saver.

Yep. Mine is a smoke smell. Sticks around for a few weeks or longer, then I notice it's gone.

I sometimes notice a lingering burnt toast smell. Usually it happens if somebody burns toast. Not sure about other causes.

About once a month, I smell smoke too; can last from two days to about a week.

I never had these issues before I had Covid. There is no rhyme or reason to it. My guess is if the person had Covid, that's the cause

So weird seeing this post as I was just googling this last night. Mine is more of a smoke smell, sometimes a sorta metallic smell.

I had never had this prior to COVID, so I assumed it was a symptom of that. I have had some sinus crud the last few weeks, so I've been chalking it up to that.

Parkinsons more likely to give anosmia. You're probably just anxious.
