Shouldn't the hook be above his head? Seems like when the weight is added, the hook mechanism will smack him right in the face.

I'm thinking the same thing. All the straps go under and back up but there doesn't seem to be much to prevent the statue from rolling in the cradle.
Looks like they randomly crossed them under and around the legs and said, alright, let's go with it.
