Beauregard:

He was a creole half white/black.
Architect of the New Orleans Street Car Line
Architect of the New Orleans Canal & drainage system
Fought for Integrated Schools a 100 years before it was adopted.
Fought for the abolition of slavery
Fought for blacks to be able to vote

And if it weren't for all this bullshite, I never would have learned that tonight. So we're all winners.

It's a fricking statue, they're not fricking his widow.

Check your sentence structure and spelling before you call someone an idiot.

And I've been around this board long enough to interject on any subject.

What is really satisfying is the sudden love of federal workplace regulations by the pro-statue (mostly conservative, and by default anti-regulation) crowd.

I'm kinda ambivilent. On one hand, in all my decades of living I never once made it a point to go and admire, study or otherwise interact with any of these statues. Heck I never even really made it a point to look up at ole Robert E. Lee when I drove around the circle. And I doubt I would ever have visited the statues even if they were up there forever. So its not gonna affect me at all.

But on the other hand, I'm no big fan of the Landrieus so the hate flowing his way doesn't bother me at all.

Like a thief in the night, goons with masks and weapons. Kinda like the KKK or Hitler's Brownshirts.

Yep, typical Democrats.

Beauregard

Add to your post that he helped convince Davis to Surrender. It's a Wikipedia reference but I have read this fact elsewhere years ago.
quote:

Johnston and Beauregard met with President Davis on April 13 and their assessment of the Confederate situation helped convince Davis that Johnston should meet with Sherman to negotiate a surrender of his army.

Beauregard is one of the most important historical figures in NOLA history, sorry you are clueless.

These guys working on this statue also look relatively clueless.

LOL, what would you know about any kind of work?

LOL...been working with my hands since I was 15.

Mowed grass in a fricking graveyard when I was in high school.
Built scaffolds in plants when I was in college.
Built concrete forms for paper mills.
Been in the construction business for the last 22 years.
Own my own company.
Work for myself.
Set my own hours.
