Driving should be for those who pass the test.

Voting is just mob rule, shouldn't be legal, but anybody who passes a basic knowledge test should be allowed to for now.

Drinking should be your parents decision and not the states.

The school age should be up to whoever runs the school.

Or do you think this should be a law?
No, we have too many laws. And their may be exceptions that are truly valid. I do think that more people electing to delay getting kids devices is a good idea.

I'm failing to see why a kid with a cell phone equals bad parenting.

Why? Do you have some actual evidence of anything to support that?

Technology changes. Times change. Why hold your children back just because it is different than what you grew up doing?

An online petition called "Wait Until 8th" asks parents to hold out until their child is in at least 8th grade

How about an online petition called "Don't have kids unless you are ready to parent"?

Phones aren't the problem; bad parenting is, though.

Ability to drive has a huge maturity component, not just a physical component. We have adults that cant handle driving from a psychological perspective. Do you really think a 12 year old could handle the responsibility.

We didn't get our son one until he was 25. He has limited use of it, and we take it at night when he goes to his room to go to bed so that he's not on it late at night.

If the 12 year old has insurance, why is he any bigger risk to the public than the crappy adult driver?

Because I dont think it is holding a kid back to deny a phone. The fact that you continue to go back to it being some type of development milestone tells me plenty.

I think it is more important to teach many, many, many other life skills versus the time that kids spend on their device.

Real talk, for every flip phone there are 10 smart devices. For every parent that takes the device away and it isnt used as a perpetual babysitter there are 10 kids with their heads buried in it all day. For every kid that uses it to text Mom when they get home, there are 20 using some type of social media program, most of which lead to things they hide.

We have too many kids that cant communicate with adults or others. I suspect electronics has a lot to do with it. If I am wrong, who cares, it is just a phone.

90% of parents lead their punishment with "Ill take away your phone" , yeah, it is just a tool when you don't have a landline.

I don't believe in giving kids phones or other electronics at a young age. But, I don't believe in telling other people what to do more. Our entire society is so obnoxiously overreaching and morally sanctimonious.

I didn't say it is. You're the one advocating for an arbitrary age restriction.

Why is it a guarantee that they will spend their life on the device?

Shitty parents will be shitty parents regardless. It has nothing to do with the phones.

There is more that goes into that than having a phone.
