The lowest October temperature record for the continental U.S. was recorded at Peter Sinks, UT at -35 degrees F.
That was Monday morning:

This morning at 2:45 am a new low October temperature record was recorded: -44.8 degrees F.

Why is Peter Sinks so cold?

That was Monday morning:

The coldest temperature ever recorded in October in the contiguous United States — minus-35 degrees — was logged in Peter Sink east of Logan early Monday morning.

Why is Peter Sinks so cold?

So why is this montane site, located 20 miles northeast of Logan, so cold? The low temperatures are due to a combination of the area’s unique basin topography, high elevation, and dry climate. Peter Sinks, at an elevation of 8,164 feet, is a natural limestone sinkhole approximately one-half mile in diameter; one can liken it to a large bowl, which has no valley outlet to drain water or air. On calm cloudless nights this high basin loses accumulated daytime heat to the atmosphere. In addition, cool dense air slides down-slope into the basin floor in a process known as cold air pooling. Extremely low temperatures can occur, especially in the wake of wintertime arctic fronts.

So Peter Sunk to a new low?

Can you visit this sinkhole? That would be pretty cool to experience that cold of temp for a few minutes.

.... You hack.
You tried this post yesterday on the poliboard as evidence against climate change.

Looks like it according to Google Earth. It appears you might have to do a little hiking after parking roadside.
It's right outside of Garden City, UT.

Not going for he climate change angle here. But if you want to be my guess.
But the purpose of yesterday's thread on the poliboard was to needle alarmists. If they can declare apocalyptic visions of the earth burning up because Paris France reached 95 degrees F in the summer then I can declare climate change is debunked because the lowest October temperature in the continental U.S. was shattered.

Global warming strikes aga....oh wait.

Climate change doesn't only account for heat. Works for the cold too.

So you're saying increased CO2 concentrations lead to greater temperature extremes?

A little sidenote for you Gumbo:
Deep October cold over the Rockies often leads to extreme wild fire conditions in California. That kind of sense cold air means high pressure. Sets up for a strong pressure gradient across the Sierra Nevada.
That super dry air gets wrung out of more moisture coming over the top of the sierras and warms adiabatically as it falls down the other side. Resulting in hot and very dry winds.

This is where Antonio Brown froze his feet.

Basins or valleys in the remote rockies and even northeast U.S. can get crazy cold as chilled air from the mountains rushes down and cools overnight.
The phenomenon happens a lot in upstate NY, especially, if you watch during the winter.

Interesting and totally makes sense.

There are areas of WI where it is not unusual for the temp to drop 10 degrees as you drive into valleys in the winter.
Had a house in a draw like that. Temp would go up 10 degrees in only about a 1/4 mile. Heat bills were a bitch.

Who this? ?
Emmy Rossum. She gets naked a bunch of times on her show "Shameless".
She has been near the top of my list for a long time. Cant quite put my finger on what makes her so attractive to me, but I'd do very dirty things to her.
