So feral cats are responsible for roughly twice as many bird deaths. Time for feral cat bounties.

What about dogs
It is almost universally enforced that dogs have to be confined and maintained on their owner’s property and animal control will almost always be contacted when there is a stray.

The number of animals killed by dogs isn’t even in the same universe as cats.

I mean, it isn’t even close. We are talking magnitudes of difference.

Had an outdoor cat, died a few months ago. Also have a bird feeder. Cat never caught bird one. And neither has my neighbor's black cat. Matter of fact every now and then I'll find a dead bird by the feeder and nary a cat eats it.

I agree and there are organizations that do try to round them up and spay/neuter them. But PETA, surprisingly, thinks that isn't enough and we should euthanize them.

I think, at the very least, if you have a free roaming cat and you haven't spayed or neutered them, you should get hit with a huge fine. At least don't make your invasive species compound the issue with feral babies.

Then it must not be a real thing!

Cats hunt by instinct.

House cats who are well-fed kill simply out of instinct, not to feed/survive.

It has nothing to do with survival.

These birds didn't die by cat, they died by bird flu or some other outside hazard. I see more Mississippi Kites killing birds than cats.

Well, then the studies showing the billions killed by cats must simply be wrong.

Sorry about that.

Completely agree with that. Our one male cat is neutered. Everyone should fix their house pets especially cats.

The number of dogs that kill humans of all ages yearly is 50-90.

And many areas have outlawed the worst breeds.

And the vast majority of places have leash laws and legislation where you will be punished if your dog does something wrong.

I’m not entirely sure of your point.

We shouldn’t care about the impact of cats because they don’t kill the occasional child like dogs do?

We created legislation around dogs because of the small number of negative events that occur.

Apparently, cats kill between 7 and 20 BILLION small animals in the USA alone every year.

Who counted this? And that is one of the biggest fricking ranges I've ever seen given. And I don't even like cats

Do you truly care about the impact of cats?

It’s such a weird hill to die on

RIP to our old black lab but she would kill any small animal in sight

Likewise with the border collies and blue heelers I grew up with

Yes.

Feral and outdoor cats are a menace.

Just as an aside, we have an indoor cat that stays indoors.

And we keep her indoors because my cat is not the problem of everyone else in my neighborhood, same as our dogs are not their problem and they stay within our yard or go out on the leash.

It was a thread for discussion.

I am not the one dying on the hill here.

Everyone who seems to think that it is perfectly fine to subject the world around them to their pets are the one’s refusing to budge.

Do you think if cats were homeless, that there would be fewer cats and that they would not kill small animals?

Feral cats are a massive issue.

Have you not read the thread?

No one is saying to ban cats.

Just keep them in your home and remove feral cats from the streets.

In this instance, they are 100% correct.

Are you arguing that a group is automatically wrong 100% of the time because they hold a majority of views that you would disagree with?

That is a pretty kindergarten level viewpoint.
