I constantly see dump trucks driving around the BR area with no rear license plate. Just yesterday, I was driving behind one on Siegen before it turned off on Reiger. When the driver made the turn on Reiger, he had a front license plate (must have been a Texas plate or something) but no rear plate.

There’s no way this is legal, right? Do cops not give them shite for this?

My second dump truck pet peeve is seeing this while driving 70 mph on the interstate:

As if a stick-on sign somehow eliminates the driver’s responsibility to secure his load. If you have to remove your license plate and put a disclaimer on the back of your vehicle to avoid being constantly sued, you shouldn’t be driving on the fricking interstate.

Yeah, I gotta stay two thirds of a football field behind a dump truck that I can't read the sign of till I get 30 feet behind? I don't think so.

When you call to complain about a cracked windshield they will try to stand behind the "we aren't responsible" party line. All you have to say is lets call DOT about an unsecured load. That being said I try to give them a wide birth.

their plate will be on the front. The reason for it is that when you back up the dump truck into a dirt pile it tears and destroys plates like crazy so you put them on the front of the truck.

Do you have it on camera? I don’t see how I could prove a certain dump truck broke my windshield since I don’t have a dash cam.

What equally pisses me off is the slow poke in the left lane who acts scared to death to pass the truck. So here I am now, stuck in the line of fire as selfish a-hole in front of me takes his sweet arse time to get around the truck.

This has happened to me so many times. I once got stuck like that as the truck is steady slinging rocks, and got two cracks on my windshield. I watched it happen. I was furious to say the least. Mainly at the dipshit who wouldn't let me speed up past the truck.

I always wondered about the legality of those signs claiming they are not responsible for broken windows and such.

Can I simply put a sticker on my car that says I’m not responsible if I crash into your car and damage your property? Or “I’m not responsible if throw a handful of coins at your car if I get pissed off at you while driving”

a buddy of mine was bringing me a load of topsoil to a job and ran way late. he said a woman followed him for about 10 miles and called the police on him. they pulled him over and she swore up and down that a rock came off his truck and hit her windshield and she followed since so that he wouldn't get away with it. The driver told the cop that was a lie and that he didn't break her windshield. She kept wearing it was him, the cop asked how he knew he didn't break it and my buddy told him that he didn't have anything in the bed at all. cop climbed up there and it was spotless with nothing anywhere around the bed. The cop ended up giving the woman some kind of ticket and left.

Exactly. Just like the sign in the parking lot that says not responsible for death or damage. Or the playground that says not responsible for bodily injury.

...and they are responsible for broken windshields if the object that broke the windshield comes from their truck.

I think like was said earlier, it is more of a deterrent than a legally binding thing. I'm sure it has some type of help when it comes to insurance claims. You would be surprised how many people will tailgate the frick out of a dump truck to get something to hit them.

Renegade Dump Trucks. Would have been a great name for a band. You know, back in the day when there were bands.

I also found that not driving up a dump trucks arse helps me avoid whatever rocks they are dropping or kicking up.
