Fake news. Terrible methods in those studies.

They live off mom and dad, they should have some money not spent on overpriced cell phone plans

I have college loans and qualified just fine, as did like three other millennials in my office alone this past year
And the following was your living arrangements when you all applied?

a record one-third of millennials are living in dorms or with their parents
Because that was the millennials that I was referring to

Yeah I can definitely see how starting a 401k would make a millennial resemble that.

Us older millennials are carrying you post 1988 millennials

HA I know plenty of 1988-1991 doing just fine on their own. Including myself.
However, when comparing us to the people the fought in WW2 and Vietnam....we are no where close to having the balls those guys had, as a whole.

Freshly discharged from the military and not living with my parents, nor were my coworkers
Most of us are quite enterprising/frugal. Do your research.

My guess is this applies to older millenials, born prior to 89 and not the younger douchebags.

So their parents should have given the money for cell phones to the kid rather than the cell phone company?

This is so true. As a mellanial, I can promise that myself and most of my friends, anyway, are very financially conservative. And most of us are not job hoppers. We work very hard and resent the fact that we are paying a shite pile into social security programs that we will never benefit from.

Really, baby boomers are considered to have been born between the years on 1946 (post WWII) to 1964, so the average age for a boomer is much higher than twenty-something when the 401K started in 1978.
Again, like stated, 401K was not understood for at least a decade. Also, jobs back then offered retirement programs so there wasn't the need to get a 401K and truthfully, no one really thought that Social Security was going to fail at that time.

OK, I'm trying to be patient. That was a quote DIRECTLY from the article, that millennials were living with their parents to save up for a mortgage. I called BS on that. And you confirmed that indeed it did not apply to you or your friends, so . . . .
I'm not the one with the research problem

You made a stupid blanket statement. 1/3 of millennials (not "most") are living not just with their parents, as you implied, but also in dorms.
Which further buttresses my point about my demographic being acutely fiscally aware instead of immediately attempting to live beyond our means.

They didn't dump cash into a 401k because they all had pensions.

They can see the writing on the wall. All these fricking entitlements nowadays are gonna cause this country to collapse financially at some point.

I don't know a single millennial that expects the government to provide any social security benefit when it's time for us to retire. History will call the baby boomers the generation of leaders that led to the downfall of the United States.
Posted on 5/2/17 at 8:09 pm to TigerFanInSouthland
I think most people born after 1980 recognize that social security will either be gone or made obsolete by inflation by the time they retire.

Definitely an interesting time to be alive.
