Amazes me how many times people have been warned about driving on flooded roads yet they continue to do it.

Those railroad bridges aren’t just flooded roads. They become lakes. It takes a special kind of stupid to drive into those spots on Acadian and Bluebonnet.

I don't get why BR drivers drive their cars into the flood waters under the railroad bridges on bluebonnet and acadian every time it floods. Everyone knows it floods there and it's not just a few inches of water. It's feet.
nola too, how many millions were spent on a pumping station for ONE ponchartrain distressway underpass?

Plus when a lot of rain falls in a short amount of time, there's no such thing.

It would help if they cleaned the ditches, creeks, canals, bayous and rivers.

The concrete canal next to us is half full with dirt and bushes. Our water hit higher than it did in 2016.

Every rain washes more dirt, debris and trash into the drainage system leaving less and less room for water. It’s a parish wide issue that isn’t being addressed properly.

I mean you can say whatever the hell you want.

I still show compassion for people who have passed on, and their families as well.

Same here. Keep it handy in the car at all times. Hopefully never have to use it.

That meme is amazingly true. They act like the bluebonnet underpass doesn’t exist. They didn’t have it blocked off last night. A WAFB camera man was out there stopping traffic at 1 am.

Especially because this is sort of a regional message board. Someone here likely knew the deceased.

Concrete canals are typically terrible for drainage because they don't absorb nearly as much.

Regardless, "adequate drainage" is all relative, there will still be an amount of water that can fall in a short enough time to overwhelm it.

Concrete canals are designed to move water quickly. They also should be easier to maintain. The hardly absorb any water, but realistically does it make much difference?

There’s no question that a rare rain event will overwhelm any system; however, it’s common sense. If a ditch is ten foot deep and clean it can handle more water and act as a conduit for more water than the same ditch with five foot of dirt covering the bottom.

Cleaner ditches and canals and rivers could speed drainage, and hold more water in an extreme event. If it lowered the water levels a foot along Claycut Bayou, Jones Creek and Dawson Creek that couldn’t hurt right?

Did people see any coos out in the emergency? I didn’t see any when I moved around the city this morning even though several signals were down. Shouldn’t someone be out enabling traffic to flow safely?
