There's a person with intellectual disability in my neighborhood and he sits on his porch drinking beer all day, e'rry day. So, yeah I think it's fine.

LINK

This is the dumbest fricking thing I ever heard, but then again I don't expect people who don't educate themselves before voicing an opinion to really be the smartest people on earth.

The link above shows a list of people with DS who has had successful lives.

Your dad probably should have shot his load on the wall...

It's sad, but the reason a lot of people with DS or other types of disabilities are not able to have "normal" lives is not because of what they have, but because of the way they are raised or treated.

People act the way they are treated and if someone is raised as if they are different than others.. As if they are special. They are always given their way, etc.. No matter what they have, they are not going to be able to adjust to the real world all that easy.

I think this is something that we see in people with DS. Many people with it are treated as if they are different and they are praised for minor accomplishments so the bar for them is set low.

Not everyone with DS or other disabilities are the same. I think people with DS, have lower IQs, but there are people without DS who have lower IQs than average. But people in general adjust to our environment. If not held back, people will usually find other ways to do what they are not able to do.

If someone is too short and has never been able to reach things that everyone their age has been able to. If they are told that they can't ever reach things that others are able to, if they need something they can't reach, they will wait until someone is around to do it for them.

If they are not told they can't, they will figure out a way to reach whatever they want. And people who assume people can't do something because of what they have are fricking morons.

Again, please do not have children.

A good parent is a parent the rest of their lives and wouldn’t have it any other way.

So if a couple finds out their kid has DS before it's born and decides to abort it because "they don't want to be a parent their entire life". What if they try again, has a kid with no obvious problems.. But the kid is just a frick up who never leaves home. They have to bail that kid out of stupid shite they get themselves into all the time, etc, etc, etc?

Not to mention, there are people with DS who are able to live on their own.

I don’t care about your hypothetical.

A lot of people would get an abortion if they knew the baby would have DS. DWI.

Does comprehending that stop all of those who actually comprehend it from drinking another and another after reaching that point?

or truly understand what drinking does?

You think the people in AA meetings don't know what drinking can do? They do it anyway. There are numerous things that a person with Downs is not allowed to do compared to other people, but if they want to drink like everyone else and feel like everyone else, then more power to them as long as they have someone looking out for them.

It’s crazy we let them have kids

I mean seriously, if two down's get married and have a kid, what % is it that their kid would have downs as well? Or would like 1 out of every 10,000 ends up being some kind of super hero?

Well there are a lot of horrible people in the world.

Also....testing isn’t always 100% accurate so you could be aborting a perfectly healthy baby.

Coworker of mine was told her baby had downs before he was born. She refused to abort. Baby was born....and did not have downs.
