I know quite a few and I call them "cool" and "genuine" and "caring". You seem like a decent dude, and I'm not going to get into a debate on political correctness, but if you really get to know someone with Down's, I'd be surprised if you ever sat back and thought of them as dumb, or felt the need to label them based on their intelligence.

I have a good family friend who has downs and she's a great person. nice, caring, all that. until something small sets her off and she's very unpleasant.
no one is saying people with downs are terrible people. it's just a fact that they aren't as intelligent as "normal" people.

Ok, if I was to invite someone over to your house and only use those synonyms to describe them, then I don't think they'd get the general gist of my meaning when I tell them that a person with Down's is coming over.

Very next door neighbor growing up. I loved the guy, and he was a very protective and good natured guy. He however could never be left alone and was a danger to himself. Sorry, but he very much lacked essential mental capabilities, and it was hard to not approach him much more simply than I would all of my other peers. I stand by the fact that he is unintelligent, but he was the happiest person I've ever met. When he got a golf cart for his birthday, I've never seen more joy on anyone's face in my life, and every time he's in that golf cart, he's just as happy. While I wouldn't wish to have Down's due to wanting to be a truly productive member of society and not wanting to be a burden on my parents, I do envy his sheer joy every time it see him. I have never met a happier individual than him.

she doesn't flip out physically, just emotionally. it's a lot like a child's temper tantrum. it's sad to see cause she's close to 40 now, but she only gets that way when she's been out and about all day and over exerted.

I wasn't trying to be funny or shocking. I'll share with you a piece I wrote on the high abortion rate for Down pregnancies when I'm back at my computer. Sorry you misread. I've been posting on here for a decade, so most know my positions.
