People with a knowledge of history aren’t panicking.

It’s not some breaking news that a virus/disease can spread quickly and a lot of people die as a result. “Plagues/sicknesses” are a part of our world and have always been. The only thing worrisome is everything shutting down but with this thing having the mortality rate that it does, things will open up when necessary. “The only thing to fear is fear itself” -FDR 1933

Thought provoking stuff. Thanks for sharing.

I get the sense people are panicking more about the possible discomfort of having no TP and their kids around every day than they are dying of the virus/going truly hungry/etc.

And elevators, airplanes and cruise ships

I hear it's just like the flu.

The run on shite tickets is the most fascinating part of this whole ordeal

It was a failed FDR joke. He was wheelchair bound due to Polio.

Actually much less unpleasant than the flu in everyone except for the elderly

I'll be buying new washcloths soon enough

That joke was lamer than Oweo's legs.

No shite. People don’t want to die.

It did. I only made the lamer comment because of the situation

People with a knowledge of history are looking back at the Spanish Flu pandemic and trying not to repeat it (hence the social distancing)
People whose knowledge of history only stems back as far as earlier recent overblown outbreaks (SARS/MERS/Swine.....) are the ones willing to say, no questions asked, that since the coin has landed on heads a handful of times in a row, it will surely land on heads again.
We don’t have the data to say that in either direction. Yes, the world and our scientific knowledge has increased dramatically since a century ago, as it had the century before that.
But, it is a near certainty that society in 2120 is going say we’re as primitive as we say our predecessors are now, we just don’t know exactly what it is we’re “obviously” so fricking wrong about yet.

I'm a boomer. I done seen cheap gas, viruses, illnesses, stock market dropping due to chicken littles, wars and all kind of shite.
Most of us get through and keep on keeping on.
Advice: don't take money out of the stock market. If you don't take any out you haven't actually lost anything.
I live on SS and 401K. I'm only taking out of bonds now. I may stop taking any out. I'll just take out of savings account until this all lines back out.
