There's even some country song about dads called "My old Man". I recall hearing a lot of this as a teenager. I always found it downright disrespectful when I heard it.

It's a total microaggression

Agreed, the children shouldn't be assuming its gender.

Not as bad as women calling their husband that.

Yeah that has always come across as pretty trashy.

I call my dad "pops" or "old man" most of the time. He's 70 and a man so I'd say it's a relatively accurate description.

Well I already see there are a number of people here who show no respect towards their fathers.

That too. And that reminds me - that the term my old lady was also used by teens when talking about their mother. I found that even more disrespectful

If my old man isn't offended by it, why should you be?

that's very trashy. I've never heard someone who graduated college say that.

I've never referred to my Dad using that term and I never will. I don't like it any more than guys who call their gfs/wives "my old lady" and vice versa. I don't get upset when other people use it, but it does make me cringe a bit.

The OT has to be getting close to running out of things to bitch about if this is actually a topic.
