I always thought it was originally a typo for OK and people just started doing it on purpose. Like pwned.

I have gotten then sense that the person who said it was to convey a nicer tone in text is probably correct, though.

I used to do it. It's mostly to just be more friendly than straight "ok". Or that's what I meant by it anyway

If they do that, then they’re undoubtedly part of the Van Buren Gang.

What does this mean? What is it short for? I get chicks, but I work with a couple grown men that do this. Is it just that much harder to type ‘ok’?

It's "ok" with enthusiasm.

For example, you dense frick:
If my woman texts me at work, "lets go get sushi tonight"
and I reply "Ok",
she will reply with "You don't sound excited about it. We don't have to. Was just an idea."

But if I reply with "kk" or "okie", she will know that I'm enthusiastic about the idea.

It's a simple and effective way to convey tone. You're a fricktard.

What does this mean?
It's like a secret handshake. When they type KK you type back a K to let them know, "Yes, I am a klan member."

Unfortunately texting, convenient as it is, has really screwed up the way people write. This is especially true for kids.

If you type “k” it’s considered passive aggressive. So now people type “kk”…because it’s too time consuming to just go back to typing “ok”.
