Early morning or red eye flights.

You always deal with people. At times when you want/should be asleep is when you get the most annoyed.

I got to where I almost preferred a hotel not have a bar if their bar was a "cocktail hour" in the breakfast area. Marriott Courtyards are what I'm talking about.

The solitude of the afternoons when the work is done and trying to avoid the vicious cycle that is work, bar, hotel.

Courtyard Marriott lobby bars closing at 10pm.

Other travelers at the bar that are talky talky about business things, tell me a cool story, not your linkedin pitch.

Missing my child.

I haven't traveled in almost a year and I don't miss it at all.

But like others said, it's not all bad. If it weren't for my kid, I would probably enjoy it alot more.

It also makes a difference where you are traveling to, and from.

Example, if you live somewhere like ATL and can get direct flights to pretty much anywhere, your actual travel time from door to door isn't so bad.

It also depends on your company travel policy... the real sticklers suck, you eat shite food, hotel sucks, you have to Lyft instead of rental, cheap flights with two layovers, no premium seating, no gogo wireless, no alcohol on itemized receits etc. receipts for every single little thing. Spend more time on your expense report than the meeting you traveled for.

Hotels have come a long way in the last 20 years.

I was on the road about 40 nights a year for 15 years. Not a large number by a lot of folks standards but after a while it gets old. The newer business hotels are light years more comfortable than in the past. You can get a cold beer, nicer cup of coffee, better beds and better pillows than in the past.

When the runway is too short for the Gulfstream and I have to take the King Air.

I usually chose my hotel based on proximity to bars and restaurants. I'd rather drive an extra 15 minutes to the office but have things to do in the evenings. My travel was weird in that I'd be in NYC one week, Vineland, NJ or Ripley, WV the next so this wasn't always an option.

In what seems like another lifetime, was a million miler on Delta. It was a different time when the air travel was half the fun. Was fortunate enough to ride first class most of the time, so that made it easier. The middle to upper scale hotels in the big cities were great. It was a way of life for the family, cause it is all they ever knew. Yes, I missed a few events with the kiddos, but they benefited in the long run with the ability to provide a better then a Lowe middle class life style, schools, etc. The price the major breadwinner in the household has to pay sometime.

Today, I don’t fly at all. All the fun has been taken away with TSA and regulation. If I would have taken better notes, it would make a great book; most would think it was fiction :-). I enjoy getting in the back roads, away from the interstates, and enjoy the people and smaller places.

As of last year the courtyard marriotts served alcohol all day, not just a "cocktail hour". Maybe it's different in Utah. But it does suck they all close at 10.
