someone who travels frequently is obviously going to be a bit more cultured than some baw who takes his yearly vacation to Destin, Disney

Disney has EPCOT. 30A is the premier beach destination of the finest trailer parks across the gulf coast

I'm sorry you're a miserable shut-in with no joy for life. So sad...

Traveling is spending an extended period of time where your personal enjoyment is the 100% focus. Nothing wrong with traveling, it’s a fun way to treat yourself, but to call it a hobby or passion is silly.

A hobby is a regular activity that is done for enjoyment, typically during one's leisure time.

Oh, you enjoy not working, not doing house chores, and going out to eat at nice restaurants everyday? That’s a unique interest!

Avoiding responsibilities in a different location from where you normally live is not a hobby. “Traveling” doesn’t make you more cultured, worldly, or interesting.

So please, if you’re one of those people who list “traveling” as a hobby or passion, please stop. You’re embarrassing yourself.

Sorry no one will split the cost of room at motel 6 with you.

I know this is a joke, but it probably sums up this board perfectly

Most disney-obsessed group of people on the planet

It is a joke. But I fricking love Disney and go at least once a year. I don’t care what anyone thinks about it either.

Okay, I kind of agree that traveling isn't really a hobby. Or at least I've never considered it to be one. Hobbies to me are hunting, fishing, knitting, painting, etc. But to say

is pretty dumb. Traveling the world is probably the best thing to do to become more cultured.

hob·by1
'häbe/Submit
noun

1. an activity done regularly in one's leisure time for pleasure.

Based on the definition of "hobby" how is traveling any less of a hobby than the above things you named?

A lot of people don't enjoy traveling. A lot of people that's all they want to do. I don't see why saying it's an interest or hobby is a big deal. I have a friend who's probably never been more than 100 miles from his house and has no desire to, and another friend who is out of the country seemingly every other month. Different strokes for different folks.

this is my dad. He is perfectly fine with seeing none of the world. He could not care less.

In my mind you travel to places to do your hobbys. Like you travel to Thailand to go scuba diving. You travel to Argentina to go hunting. You travel to Colorado to go skiing.

Just traveling in and of itself isn't a hobby. It's just, well, traveling.
