People who operate "favor banks"

By this I mean people who will do something nice for you and then in the future cite that niceity in an attempt to coerce you into doing them a larger favor.
A buddy of mine invited me to a crawfish boil a couple weeks back, didn't take up a collection or anything- in fact we used my pot/basket and burner kit because he does not have a setup- and today he texts me asking to drop him off in NOLA for 5pm tomorrow to catch a flight (we're both in BR). Now, nevermind the fact this guy has his own car, I told him that's a lot to ask and I'd do it as long as he gave me some gas money on the trip. He immediately throws the crawfish boil in my face.
The only point I'm seeking to clarify here is- do people who do favors for friends with the intention of using it as coercive leverage suck, or am I a dick for not acquiescing?

You should have said, "Are you talking about the one you used my burner and pots or another one..."

Yea people who take deposits in the Favor Bank are dicks.
Which is.... EXACTLY WHY I NEVER ASK ANYONE TO HELP ME MOVE. My sig others and I have moved 4 times with zero help besides borrowing a truck in one move Or if moving a house, I pay helpers and rent my own truck.
Hell My first job after college was in Dallas. They gave me moving expense of $1500. The truck was $450. Gas was $.89/gal so $50 was plenty. Then, I paid 3 friends $333 each that May of 1999.
to the OP. That dude is a dick.

I like when a Catholic does something for me. He ain't expecting anything in return from me, just less time spent in Purgatory.

Could be that your buddy thinks the friendship is one-sided with you taking advantage of his generosity, while not showing much friendship in return. Maybe this was just the straw that broke the camel's back. I can't make a call until I hear your buddy's version.
Also, if he is a friend in need and you are able to, why not give him a ride?

He's a dick for throwing it back in your face, you're a dick because you can't tote a motherfricker to the airport.
Instead of the "that's a lot to ask" schtick you could have cited short notice and other commitments.
Exceedingly short notice, I would add.

If it's a good friend of mine, I'd take them to nola no questions asked.
So basically, how good of friends are yall?

If my schedule was clear I would have brought him and not asked for money just to hang with a buddy. That $8 in gas isn't going to hurt you.
