Unless someone needs his car while he's gone, why would he ask you to bring him to NOLA? To save $8/day on parking?

I've done many favors for this guy in the past- predominately driving-related favors- the dude has dwi's and thinks I'm his personal taxi service and usually I don't mind. If anything him making this request and blowing up over me asking for gas money is the straw that broke the camel's back.

I never expect anything back when I do a favor. That way I'm never disappointed.
Would need to know more about y'all to be able to decide who's the a-hole.
On the surface it sounds like he is.

just doesn't seem like they are really all that good of friends.

Well initially he wanted a ride to BTR airport, which was absolutely no problem, but then today he changes it to NOLA, that's why o said it's a lot to ask- in comparison to the initial plan to drop him off at BTR

Tell him the time you'll pick him up. Send Uber to get him. Let him foot the bill.

So basically, how good of friends are yall
Good point- we're only friends through a mutual friend. In fact the boil I mentioned was at the mutual friend's house, the other guy just picked up the crawfish. Having provided the pot and burner as well as getting a tank of propane, I felt I had contributed appropriately.

If you're 19, that's acceptable behavior. If either one of you has a real job, he can go suck a cock.

the time drving should be the dealbreaker...asking for the gas money makes you a cheap a-hole.

What are you 15 and driving your first car?
I didn't realize that adults asked for gas money.

I made it clear that the 3+ hour trip was my real issue but it would assuaged with some gas money

I'm between jobs, money's tight right now. Like dead broke tight. It's not even a question of swallowing the cost, I literally wouldn't be able to make the trip without gas money and he knows that.

I think I'd be offended if a buddy asked me this because I would know better to offer to fill up a friend's tank if he was taking me somewhere like that.

I handle this by telling people upfront that I do not work off the favor system.
When I do something to help you... its because we are friends and I want to help. vice versa.
What ive found is that if you state this upfront when they are helping you, it comes off as a joke... but they remember later.
I typically help people more than I need help though...

what you should have done is told him you had shite to do.

Adults drive their own cars. If it is an emergency and you need a ride from B.R. to N.O. you fill their tank up.
If you have DWI's and are no longer allowed to drive you should stay home until you get your shite together and become an adult.

Well......which is it?

It's both, it's an imposition on my time that i would be willing to bite but I'd need the gas money to do it at all. He hasn't had his license revoked from the dwis and has a car which he can and does drive fwiw
