Building homes and real estate were my side job/jobs until the end of 2015 and holy shite the last 2 and a half years have been a roller coaster ride! Ive had doubts, stress, success, failures, etc. I can’t tell you how many nights I sat up contemplating walking away from everything because of the stress it caused.

Pretty much work my dream job now but it's 9-5. Work remote, don't really have much to do. See my boss once a month. Talk to her a couple times a week, at most. My dream was pretty simple.

I work from 9 to 5. Hey, hell I pay the price. All I want is to be left alone....in my average home.

Worked great... I'm making less money but I do not have the stress, I have more fun, and I get my summers off.... Actually this wasn't my "dream" job since that was working for ESPN.

Yup quit my nice office job to start my own business.
Ultimately I failed, but still the loved the industry I was in.Through connections I made, I got a decent job staying in the same industry.

Going out on your own will put a lot of stress on you and your family. Luckily in my case it led to a job I like a lot and I'm still able to earn quite a bit of money .

I worked for myself for 25 years; it worked out very well. Not huge bucks but that's not what I was after. It paid about the same as working in the industrial world where I'd been (better pay, no benefits). But tons more freedom and time off. To pilot your own ship is a very cool thing. Currently - I sold out and took some financial rewards for a few years while working for a company leading to retirement. While I don't regret it, working for myself was a better fit for me.

Quit a 9-5 80k desk job with AT&T to go to 100% commissioned sales in home improvements with a close friend. Not necessarily a dream scenario, but I make my own schedule. Work no holidays. Miss no activities with my kids. Get sent on 2-3 company paid trips a year. Saints, Pelicans, LSU tickets. Still make 80-100k.

I’ll never ever willingly work a 9-5 again in my life.

Started a business and was working part time along with other partners until business got off the ground. The time it was able to support myself as a full time manager I retired from my full time job.

I would love to drop my career to get into the home theater/automation business which I really enjoy but simply can’t dedicate the time to right now. But I simply can’t afford to and will forever be stuck doing something that while I am good at it, I am much less passionate about it.

I went the other way. Got forced into freelancing, working on my own, and, after about a decade, I gave it up and went to work at a "regular" job again. Although I enjoyed the freedom that came with freelance work, I now enjoy leaving work at the office when I'm off. No work calls during vacation. No worrying about clients on my off days. Just go to work, do my job, and watch the direct deposit hit the bank every other week. Working longer hours than I'd like, but it's still way better than being on-call 24x7x365.
