I just made this picture of my grandma waiting in purgatory to appease Sally. This is much better than portraying my grandma as being in heaven with angel wings

Of all the things to get twisted around an axle about, this is pretty low on my list.

Starting a discussion on a board of discussion is hardly getting twisted about an axle.

Yes.

I'm learning more about Eastern Orthodox and may very well "switch" in the future.

Wow. That would be a jarring transition. From a personal relationship model in a faith based church to a human brokered and very works based system. I have trouble seeing this shift - especially from a conservative Calvinist.

It's not completely uncommon. And yes, it'd be quite a change. I'm just exploring right now.

Agreed. Jesus intention was not to say we turn into angels.

This is Jesus speaking on the spiritual nature of the afterlife and the fulfillment of our souls in God’s presence.

He was engaged in a pretty intense debate in the temple & its when Jesus was questioned about paying taxes to Caesar, the resurrection, and the greatest commandment.

The pic you referenced is just symbolic. Just as Jesus did.

Yes. PRAY for them, don't tell us they got their wings and they're looking down on us right now. You don't KNOW that.
That's why the Church prays a "funeral" Mass or a Mass of Christian Burial and not a "Celebration of Life." Prayers FOR the dead are essential, not suddenly canonizing them as modern day Saints because we are "processing grief."

If people want to understand this subject, I suggest reading, "The Unseen Realm" or "Supernatural" by Michael Heiser.

I don't really know anything about purgatory.

Here is what CoPilot says about humans with wings in art.

CoPilot - Humans with Wings in Art
quote:

In art, wings often symbolize freedom, transcendence, and spirituality. They are depicted as a means of breaking free from physical constraints and achieving spiritual liberation. Wings are also seen as guardians, reflecting protection and safety, mirroring how birds shield and care for their young. This symbolism extends to divine protection, signifying the presence of a higher power. Wings inspire personal growth and transformation, symbolizing the journey towards becoming a better version of oneself. Across cultures, wings have been a symbol of empowerment and a quest for higher purpose.

I do a silent eye-roll when someone remarks that God needed another angel in heaven, so he took (name of the dead person) to be with Him.

People That Seem to Think Humans Turn into Angels upon Death

Yes and it’s dumb and unscriptural. Angels are created beings and wholly different than humans. They were created to aid humans and worship God.
Humans don’t ever become angels, but one day will receive glorified bodies.
