For sake of your discussion, say they make 4 an hour.
At end of shift, Sonic has to pay the difference to add up to min wage if tips do not get them to that level.
This is federal labor law for food service employees.

Just to end your shitty troll attempt
quote:
An employer may pay a tipped employee not less than $2.13 an hour in direct wages if that amount plus the tips received equal at least the federal minimum wage, the employee retains all tips and the employee customarily and regularly receives more than $30 a month in tips. If an employee's tips combined with the employer's direct wages of at least $2.13 an hour do not equal the federal minimum hourly wage, the employer must make up the difference.
Now go rehash another shitty troll attempt and fail again.

What does it matter to the customer if he's just giving away any savings?

Keep going. I need more absurdly false and/or incomplete commentary.

If you care enough about a fast food restaurant to have an opinion on it, then you are probably fat/stupid/both.

Because it's more money out of the owner's pocket. How does the owner make up for lost income? He raises prices.

Cheap people disgust me.
I have coworkers that will dine out and might leave a dollar for a $20 meal.
Picking up foor like Sonic, Sushi, etc, they wont leave a dime.

This debate has been raging on the OT for years. Someone call a store and talk to a manager and set the record straight. Are they paid waiter rates or not?

Ok, I'll stop going to Sonic. Problem solved.

I don't believe that... all of the people I know that worked at Sonic made minimum wage and then tips
