This is what I think. It’s less aholery and more incompetency. They’re using your car as a frame of reference to help them park and it’s an even “easier” place to park because there’s less cars around

Somewhat similar story except in a movie theater…the wife (yep no pics ) and I caught a movie a few years ago that had been out for release for a long time. We walked in not long before the flick started and find the theater empty. So we we pick two good seats and thought we may be the only ones watching. Nope…minutes later another couple walk in and guess where they sat? Yep directly in front of the two of us. Not another person in the entire place except for now the four of us. What the hell is wrong with people?

Happens all the time unfortunately. I like to park away from everyone, too, and easily half the time some a-hole has made the conscious choice to park his car next to mine despite many open spots much closer to the store/destination.

Same here. I can park in a spot with 6 open spots in every direction and someone will come park in one of the spots next to me. I just don't get it.

The only explanation is just plain dumbassery or they feel that they are somehow more secure from a break-in if they cozy up to another vehicle way out in the lot because it’s more visible and obvious. I don’t give modern humans that much credit so I think it’s the former.

Parking lots might be the most common place where the total sum of human ignorance reaches its peak. I am always weary of driving down a lane towards the store or venue and having to wait to turn left or right to start up another lane. Better have your hand on your horn ready to go because it’s seems to many people just start pulling out of a space without even looking behind them. Just feel like a sitting duck. I was picking up a few items an hour before I had to leave for the airport to catch a plane to Kauai when a female cop backed straight into my passenger side door. I was going down to pick up my wife waiting at the door and the cop was parked in a space next to one of the front handicap spaces. There was one car in front of me waiting to turn at the front and I was behind that car just looking at my wife waiting on me not 10 yards away. The lady uniformed cop in her city police car just backs up right into me. It has happened other times where I see the lights of a car come on as I am slowly approaching and they start backing up and would hit me if I didn’t lay on the horn and stop.

Eh, this one I can at least understand as some seats are a better viewing experience than others.

But when parked as far away as possible, what's the plus side to parking right against another vehicle if there are no others around

He may have took it as some sort of sign... similar to the upside down pineapple or the foot tap/touch at an airport bathroom.

I used to carry these flyers in my glove box. One of the most joyous moments of my life was plastering one on a white van that parked about 5 inches from my driver's door in a mall parking lot. I drove away laughing instead of pissed off.

I wouldn't give a shite about someone parking right next to me, even if there are a ton of spots open. It's that they parked so close you couldn't get in via normal method, that would piss me off. Honestly, that almost sounds intentional given the obvious circumstances that your car was new and the other was in a condition where they wouldn't have cared if you keyed it.

Two biggest parking things that piss me off far more then someone just parking next to me even if its wide open parking are not parking correctly within a space to where it causes loss of another parking space, or leaving inadequate room for another to get into their vehicle.

This is a major pet peeve of mine as well.

On the subject of parking lots, I try to avoid at all costs parking next to a shite box, as it's likely the owner has no disregard if their door hits my car. If possible, I always try parking next to something nice, or at least newer, in hope that the owner is mindful of such things.

A competent parking move to minimize exposure is to park tightly up beside an island. At least one side of your vehicle won’t get hit, and you leave some extra room for a poor parking job on the other side of your vehicle.

I once drove my "dream vehicle."

Kept it spotless. Parked it at the far end of the lot. A door ding would have ruined my day.

Eventually I realized that all vehicles are depreciating assets that wind up in the junkyard.

Traded that vehicle in for a generic work truck, the first of many.

Now I don't GAF about door dings and park where it's convenient.

I always park at the end of the isle when possible and park on the line at the end to give more room.

Another benefit to having an older vehicle, not worrying as much about it.

Currently my biggest pet peeve. I intentionally park out away cause I do not want dings in my car from some a-hole who cares only about their own world. It is inevitable that some dipshit mom in a huge SUV parks next to me. It drives me crazy.

I tend to lean toward the thought that the best drivers have the older vehicles that are in good condition. A new vehicle could be hit or miss for the driver.
