Does this happen in your area?

Sure sign that this country is spoiled when lots of folks discard marketable goods out on the sidewalk

Why not try to sell and get some of your money back?

I live in a pretty wealthy neighborhood and see nice furniture on the curb all the time. I probably should take more advantage of it

Sometimes its easier to have someone to haul it away for free than to drag it to the dump yourself.

It's a hassle to market it and sell it.

Post something on facebook marketplace and see how annoying the messages are. Its not really surprising someone with wealth wouldnt want to deal with the hassle

why can't you view it as philanthropy? it's common knowledge that if you put something decent on the curb that it probably won't last the night, Goodwill et al are profit scams and nothing is deductible, why not just let someone else have it?

If I don’t want something anymore I put it by my dumpster at work so the scavengers can come get it. At least it’s not going into a landfill.

I don’t need to waste my time with some online market place. It’s not worth it.

Because buyers are insufferable pricks and its not worth the hassle.

Yes I live in an area with a lot of older, wealthy, retired folks and it's shocking how much stuff they toss out. I've picked up and sold 4 or 5 generators that just needed carbs cleaned and fuel lines replaced. I guess they're from a generation that just tosses and replaces everything.

because that $150 toy isnt worth the time it takes to sell it for $40. Just put it on the curb and its gone with no work done what so ever.

What is your time and money worth?

You can hold onto something and store it, list it on Facebook, wait who knows how long, deal with low ballers trying to get a deal, then deal with meeting some stranger and the risk involved.

For some, it’s worth it. For others, it isn’t.

Seen a dude giving away 2 Zero Turns a few months back that probably only needed a little maintenance.

Living in a wealthy neighborhood in New Orleans is pretty easy and not much of a brag

Have you tried selling something online lately?
Constant message haggling.
Final set a price and guy shows up with half the cash.
People show up and look like crackheads so now gotta worry bout them casing my joint.
Or
Need to meet them in “neutral” turf to sell item, which is pain in my arse.

All that to make 50 bucks on old piece furniture I don’t care bout. frick that.

I'm not driving to meet someone over $40 with and I'm damn sure not giving Jaquavion my personal address when he messages me on FB Marketplace asking to come pick up whatever useless item I no longer need.

When I lived in Cypress outside of Houston I was moving after my now ex filed for divorce.

I got to the end of my give a fricks and just started piling shite on the curb rather than on the moving truck. There was a shite ton of stuff, some pretty good and some garbage. It was all gone by daylight the next day. I guess some Mexicans came in the night and took it all.

If they don’t mind, I’d like to see if I can fumigate this here chair. It’s a good quality item.
