I don’t know if anybody else has noticed this, but I get the feeling that a lot of people are moving out of Louisiana and relocating to other states

Nope! I never noticed you had that feeling.

I love it too. My career prospects aren't exactly great there but I could make a living in Billings. My dad told me about 7 years ago that he'd spent his last summer in the South. He drove up to Montana, found a place and bought it. He'll probably live there permanently after his grandkids are grown I think.

Yep. 3 days is about my max, after that I’m ready to get out.

That pizza place started in my hometown (Bozeman, MT), so I was super excited to see they had expanded to Vegas last time I was there. Nice hockey rink too.

My late father used to go up to MT on business now and then. He loved it up there and was always telling me to go visit. It's one of those bucket list items that I haven't quite gotten to yet. VGK owner Bill Foley has property in Whitefish. When Channel 8 did a feature on him, they went up there and filmed around town. Looked awesome...but probably someplace I'd wanna avoid in winter. Call me a wuss, I don't care.

Billings is much more affordable and honestly has much milder winters than Bozeman.

I used to travel there quite frequently for work. My client there was First Interstate Bank. Nice people.

If she works at the HQ downtown I may know her. I've been there 9-10 weeks working at my previous job

Is this a trend in our state? Are most young people relocating for better job opportunities once they graduate college?

Yes Houston might as well start a bus line that goes from LSU graduation to Houston proper

If you’re not in O/G or retail there’s not a whole lotta opportunity throughout the state.

I’d say out of my high school class you either left the state, or stayed within 20 minutes of the area and popped out 12 kids and selling pyramid scheme shite/working in plants

The OT is such drama queens. I grew up in South Louisiana and don't work in a plant or in a field remotely related to industry. I have one kid and we make an income that is well into the upper middle class tier outside of SF or NYC

People Leaving Louisiana by BamaCoaster
I do the math for my friends and family all the time:
To raise your child in LA, by the time they graduate HS, costs you $200k.
Taxes
Private school
Insurance

All of those factors add up to $200,000.
It’s simply not worth it.

There are some parishes where Private School isn't a must.

Not at all but according to the OT I make 40k and my wife works at a restaurant to make ends meet. It's laughable. I could double my income by moving to Houston too. Also laughable.

This describes it for me and my wife, too. The golden memories and the present reality are not a match. That is the sad fact for a lot of us who have made the transition.

This is one of the most true statements I’ve read in the OT Lounge. I personally don’t have an issue living in this part of the state. If I ever move again, it will be to an island in the Caribbean.

Louisiana is a fun place if you are a college student or a single guy who loves to fish and hunt.

Raising a family? Not so much.
