Dude, you live 200 miles away from the storm.

There was a tornado south of Houston this AM.

In all fairness, I have a sibling in Katy who has been under Tornado Warnings complete with sirens.
Don't be a dick.

I'm thinking about checking in 'safe' from Baton Rouge.

Currently under a tornado warning right now but I hate FB notofications from people I don't care about letting me know they're safe more than tornados

Didn't Katy already get some damage?

Multiple friends from Dallas posting memes about how real Texans handle hurricanes. Really? You're in fricking Dallas, ding dong.

I stand corrected via a downvote deficit. Be a dick.

So you're not familiar with how this feature works?
People can reach out to other and ask if they're safe, then you click the "I'm safe" button to let them know. My friends and extended family back home don't know how good/bad things are, and this is their way of making sure my family and I are safe.
Pretty sad this has affected your day so much.

In all fairness, while it does have legitimate uses in certain situations, people abuse it for attention. Like flag filters on Facebook.
If you are in legitimate danger and a disaster has struck your immediate area, then sure, mark yourself safe.'
If you haven't had more than a little wind and rain...maybe don't

The media is turning this into a clusterfrick frenzy as usual. Anyone watching the news would think Armageddon is upon us.
In all fairness to many families who suffered damage, here are some photos from the Houston area...so yes, there were some areas hit hard but from what I have seen it was limited to a few suburbs.
