Seems strange no business around has any pennies
Not strange at all. The banks limit businesses on how many rolls of pennies they can get. Many are implementing rounding on your transactions to adapt to this as well.

Canada has doing this for years, at least since 2014 when I went.

Regular old fashioned light bulbs ban went into effect during covid. I had planned to stock a few cases (40W, 60W, 80W) before the ban went into effect but was distracted and only realized it probably a year afterwards.
The penny ban isn’t going to go unnoticed. People all over the country will have jugs of them. I probably have half a coffee can of pennies and I’m not even trying and rarely use cash.

300 billion pennies were minted. There will never be a shortage of them.

Just so you know, my 6 yr old nephew is devastated the penny is no longer being produced (no idea why) and has made it his personal mission to become president one day and reinstate the penny - so don’t get too comfortable collecting it.

By the time he is elected president in 30 years, a dollar will carry the same value as a penny. An all transactions will be rounded to the nearest dollar and most transactions will be digital with some limited paper transactions.

Name 1 coin in America that everyone has hundreds of in their homes that has ever become valuable.
ASE's. Everyone should have a pile of these. They were $14-15 eleven years ago and are over $80 now.

Been collecting wheat pennies for decades.

Removing the penny from circulation opens up a slot in the cash drawer for the dollar coin and assists in removing the paper dollar from circulation.
Next will be the $5 coin made from zinc and the $10 coin made from lead because lead is more precious for other purposes.

Pennies that are currently not valuable won’t likely ever be valuable. People hoarding them don’t understand how coin values work or what rarity means in the coin collecting market. So, if you got a bunch of worthless pennies I wouldn’t worry about holding them.

Funniest thing I ever saw was this woman and her kids dragging into Kroger two commercial water jugs filled with pennies, for the change machine. Needless to say the Manager was less than enthused.

I get it. People want to hope that something they own will become valuable. And it can, sometimes. That's why I'm holding on to my lawnmower.
