PED use by Navy SEALs under scrutiny after Hell Week death

I thought we would want our SEALs juicing to the gills

Navy SEALs are apparently using performance-enhancing drugs en masse -- a phenomenon under the microscope after a recent death -- and now ... the branch is cracking down.
This all came under increased scrutiny after 24-year-old SEAL trainee Kyle Mullen died suddenly earlier this year while he was participating in the training program ... specifically, during Hell Week, where would-be SEALs are put through extreme conditions.
quote:
While Mullen's mother denies her son was on any type of steroid/PED that could've adversely affected his health -- paraphernalia found in his car shortly after his death has caused concern among Navy brass, spurring them to request more testing to detect this stuff.
quote:
There's a list of banned substances -- including PEDs -- that the Navy doesn't want its recruits using ... even though, in reality, it seems many of them are. Mullen's mother told CNN that her son relayed this to her while he was alive ... that more often than not, prospective SEALs were juicing up for competitive advantages in the elite program.
quote:
Officials believe this problem goes beyond just human growth hormone, BTW -- the PED problem is said to be rampant and wide-ranging ... which is obviously worrying, seeing how much this stuff has been found to be bad for the average person's health, increasing heart rate and blood pressure levels beyond normal -- and that can lead to death.
After Mullen's death, other cadets were ordered to undergo urinalysis to test for PEDs, but the Navy wants blood testing approved (and funded) because they believe this issue needs to be weeded out and strictly forbidden.
A Naval senior officer told CNN ... there is "beyond a reasonable doubt that a significant portion of the candidate population is utilizing a wide range of performance-enhancing drugs."

Are we afraid of the NCAA finding out about this or something?

frick PEDs, I'd just want some amphetamines.

I guess the question is do the benefits outweigh the health risks.

Not being able to win a hand to hand fight in a war zone is a pretty significant health risk.

It’s mostly for the recovery aspect.
Although anyone close to that has known about the PED usage in SOF units, especially the SEALs, for awhile.

Naval brass can be clueless and stupid from time to time, but they aren’t that stupid.

Definitely, but it should be done under a doctor's supervision, especially for guys as select as SEALs. Black market use is just dangerous all around.

They just turn a blind eye for liability reasons.

With the right amount of meth, recovery can wait a week.

Prior generations did it without pharmaceuticals. If you look at old pictures, most of them were thin, if not emaciated by today's standards. Maybe being jacked is counterproductive.

why would performance enhancing drugs be banned for people putting their life on the line? these guys should be able to get a script for anythign they want when it comes to PEDs. fricking stupid....."you cant use drugs taht make you perfrom better in a war zone, its not fair"
fricking clown world.

Only if you’re too big or too stiff. Put them on EPO like cyclists. You don’t have to be “jacked”

exactly. and maybe they do behind the scenes, and the navy is covering their asses.
they should ideally have access to a whole panel of doctors and nutritionists and be able to safely cycle whatever they and the team thinks is best. they don't necessarily need to be huge, but strength and speed, especially with heavy gear, can see huge gains.

500mg of test a week. Minimal sides, in better shape than 99% of the population.
Must have using a good bit of compounds if the cause of death was PED related in a 24 year old.

It can be. The best SEAL I’ve ever known was a 5’7 180 Asian.

They should be in whatever drugs Djok, Nadal, and Alcatraz are on.
