I used to dread these threads. Thankfully I passed it in October and there's no reason to stress now

BTW, congrats

You can take right away now, you just can't get your license until you have your 4 years.

I take it you're not in Louisiana? You used to need 4 years experience before you could take the test. Now, as long as you have your FE, you can take the test whenever you want. Only thing is that you won't be licensed until you get your 4 years experience

Is this nationally or on a state-by-state basis?

State-by-state

There's also reciprocity issues. Some states for sure won't allow licensing without retaking of the exam if you took and passed before 4 years.

ETA: Civil

I wasn't aware of this. That's not a bad deal. you can take the test when it's fresh in your mind right after school.

Of course, I got mine about 9 years ago.

There's a huge caveat to that. If you take your PE exam before your 4 years, you may have to take it again when applying to another state (I.e. NY). I don't know if it's worth it if you want an out of state license.

.

This. I was going to take it in October in Louisiana but am moving out of state where they wouldn't accept it. Now I'm going to have to wait until 4 years are up.
