PC Alert: Harvard now no longer has "House Masters"...they are "Faculty Deans".

Harvard University in the US is going to remove the word "master" from academic titles, after protests from students who claimed the title had echoes of slavery.
House masters, in charge of residential halls at the university, will become known as "faculty deans".
Harvard Law School is also deciding whether to change its official seal, because of links to slavery.
US campuses have faced a series of protests over allegations of racism.
Harvard has not accepted that the use of "master" was a link to slavery, but it has responded to a campaign for a name change.
It will mean a change in job title for 24 members of staff - but will not affect other uses of "master", such as a master's level degree.
Student campaigners are also calling for a change in the official seal of Harvard Law School, with a sit-in being held this week.
quote:
The seal includes the coat of arms of 18th Century college donor Isaac Royall, who as well as establishing the college's first professorship in law, was a notoriously brutal slaveholder.

I understand why people decry political correctness sometimes, but this time, who cares? The actual effect of this change is...? Nothing important, as far as I can imagine.

It's all about the feels.

I agree. It's tiring at this point.

I won't lose sleep over it but I can simultaneously think it's dumb.
I don't have to be wound up either way.

This is a good thing. The time I spent at Harvard wasn't pleasant. Having to call people master, really sucked.

Isn't a name change in fact acceptance? Does it not give merit to their BS?

So let's ignore the historical significance of the man as it relates to the school because he owned slaves like every other white man back in those days?

I mean, that's something to think about, no?

I don't know what is funnier
The people who get triggered over some obscure microagression/historical symbol
or
People on the OT who get triggered whenever someone from the PC police gets triggered

I'm not sure if you've heard of it before, but Harvard is kind of a prominent school.

They're racist, obviously.
And while they're at it, change the PHD. I don't care how much you know about history, you're not a doctor.
