This state doesn't want to be smarter. It should benefit greatly off of natural resources, tourism, and proximity to texas
And this is exactly why it won’t. People don’t want to settle for that. The only ones that do are the uneducated and those with no other options. Or on the flip side, those who hold businesses in those sectors.
You’re a tourist economy, you’re going to have drunk drivers, you profit as a litigator.
Most everyone else with any skillset leaves, or is here for family wishing they could leave. Precisely because who the frick wants to be the tourist spot next to the actual economy?

I'm good with keeping an income tax if the alternative is high property taxes.

Louisiana needs to just lean into the fact that it will be a cesspool forever. Like Tijuana. No one goes there for the four seasons and brunch.

Hey Dumbass - the sates with no state income tax are leaving everyone else behind.
I am admittedly ignorant on this issue, but what did the states that repealed income tax do to recoup the loss in funding? Higher prop taxes? Sales tax?

Higher prop taxes?
This - In Texas the average property tax on a 500k home is $9,350.00 per year.
That adds $700+ to your monthly escrow

It all evens out.
The CoL myth is just that in this state. A myth.
Behind sky high sales tax, sky high insurance rates, poor power independence, this place is fricking expensive. Just to live in a shithole.

The revitalization of the Louisiana economy is simple: immediate repeal of our personal income taxes and a substantial reduction in sales taxes

It remains a shite hole because we keep electing idiots based off of name, sex, and race. It is a smaller version of the national system where people who give a shite are pushed out. The smart people in Louisiana mostly leave and what you're left with is overwhelmed by the uneducated

Ha!…..Leader? If Landry’s administration is successful, they’ll get this state back on the right track & actually attractive for Biz. Hey wizards of smart…just try to
Emulate Texas. Not being on the bottom of every negative metric would be a great start.
Even if this State was successful at this point….aint nobody coming close to Texas.

Until this state has an economic driver that isn’t tourism or petro chemical, it’s fricked.
Most people can barely afford to live south of i10. The education system is shite. The cost to drive a car is off the charts, and owning and insuring a home is nearly impossible if you don’t already.
It’s not exactly an attractive environment to young professionals and corporations.
Not to mention the largest city we have is corrupted cesspool of shite.

Public schools are fine in “nice” suburbs. Thats the best you can hope for

Texas has no income tax but property taxes are problematic for many.

Louisiana hasn’t been a leader since before the civil war. With the natural resources we have there is no excuse to be in the bottom tier of every statistical category. It’s an indictment of how bad Louisiana politicians are that we are lagging behind in everything.
It used to be Louisiana was at least ahead of Mississippi and sometimes alabama but both states have passed us and that’s a sad reality.

You still save more on your property tax than you would on a state income tax. Also, it goes towards things that actually benefit your local community.
Texas’ no state income tax is still better than what you can do in the majority of states.

It’s out of control. It’s common to see people paying well over $1,000 a month in property taxes for homes that aren’t even over 750k.
