Passing Lanes in Texas Don't Seem to Work Well

Came up this morning on Highway 77 out of South Texas, two lane road that has occasional passing lanes (usually about two miles of an extra lane to pass). As we approached the passing lanes, the cars ahead of me were running about 65 in a 70 or 75 zone. But, almost without exception, the drive would speed up to 70-75 as soon as they hit the passing zone - making it far more difficult to pass.
Biggest jackass was on Hwy. 79 hearing North to Marquez. Busy road, two lanes, no passing lanes. He's pulling a hunk of shite boat on a trailer. 70 speed limit. In no passing zones, he was driving 60 mph but then when a passing zone started, he would speed up to 75. I was third car behind him, and each of the first two cars had difficulty passing because of this speeding up. I did too. He turned off at Jewett - what an prick.
Otherwise, great drive - roads with high speed limits and smooth as glass the entire way south (to Rockport/Port Aransas) and back.
Also, HEB grocery stores, even in a small town like Rockport, are superior to Louisiana Kroger and Brookshire.s

It’s not just Texas with that exact problem.

Seems as if the passing lanes work except for when an a-hole is fricking them up.

I drive from BR to NOLA every T and TH and I find Texas drivers to be the worst at hanging out in the passing lane going at or below the speed limit and they frequently speed up when you try to pass them on the right.

Well then why didn’t you drive 90 to clearly be able to pass them?

Texas drivers are taught to drive in the left lane and use their FaceTime while doing so.
Watch Landman for confirmation. (Watch the show, he has never been in the right lane)

It's not us. It is those damn H1B assholes and illegals.

I believe you. Was the best state in the Union about not driving in the left lane in the 80-90’s. Many would get over on a two lane to let you pass. It is not native Texans as a general rule

I believe you too. I can remember as a kid going to Texas in the 1980's where people would actually pull to the shoulder to let you pass them on two lane roads.

Nothing grinds my gears more than when people speed up when I try to pass them. Why? Why? Why are you a fricking a-hole? I don't care if you want to go slow, just let me pass!!!! Why do you not want me to pass you? You do your speed and let me do mine you fricking stupid a-hole!!!!

I've never noticed that. Do you have Louisiana plates? That would explain it.

I drive HWY 105 from Beaumont to Conroe often and this happens all the time. Drives me crazy. These slow assholes speed up then stay in the left lane as soon as the passing lane opens up. Idiots!

To be fair it’s because most of Texas is used to interstates that are 3 lanes or more. So the concept of 2 lanes only isn’t something we’re used to.

When I pass shitty Texas drivers, they usually fit a certain phenotype.
Think central Central America.

Winter Texans from minnisota , Michigan, New York , Ohio etc have driving attributes below that of central america.

They still do this in very rural areas of Texas.

It’s even more maddening when you’re cruise controlled in the right lane, and a car begins an overtake from the passing lane, but then the jackass slows and matches your speed when he’s next to you, and now you’re blocked out from changing lanes.

2/3's of all women and 108% of black people do this. It's maddening

I have La plates but not one on the front, and they are ahead of me. They don't know what kind of plate I have until I pass them.

I had someone pull onto the shoulder twice -- both times in a pretty rural area.
