Let’s not forget that many city vendors have supplied goods and services to the project. Powerful City vendors with relationships to the mayor and city council and that real estate is their only collateral. I’m not saying if the building won’t come down but it won’t be because the mayor said so.
Who are some of these powerful vendors? I mean it’s a construction site. The steel supplier or concrete guy is the mayors brother in law? I’m not following.

She doesn't, but she knows council will back it.
. Also if she uses her powers as president of the parish and declares an emergency and the building to be a nuisance to public safety she could do something akin to an executive order.
Though either way it'll likely go through council. Jason and Helena will back demo 100% so will Palmer.

I'd bet him a hundred bucks she didn't say what he claims. By most accounts, she's not too bright and not much of a mayor, but I'm pretty confident she didn't say "without due process".
He's probably drunk or struggling with his anger issues.

Did she really say that? Wow, that’s crazy if she did

Wow. The demo crew must have started posting in this thread because it's gotten all fricked up like bringing down those cranes.

But the Mayor can’t just get on live TV minutes after they failed to take down the cranes and proclaim the property will be demolished without any due process. She doesn’t have that sole authority
So you just upset that a politician is running their mouth, saying something that is obvious?
Back in the early 80s a plane crashed in Kenner. The Mayor of Kenner, a young Aaron Broussard, didn't think the airline was working quickly enough to clean up the crash site. So he went on tv and ordered the airline to "get your goddamn plane out of my city".
Did he have that authority? Probably not. Did it work to speed up the process? Yes.
There is no part of that building being saved. She's saying what everyone knows will happen.

So, how much is that property worth? You know, once they demolish the crumbled building that's currently on top of it?
Also, I guess you'd have to factor into the value of the property the fact that erecting any sort of structure there that is significantly higher than the surrounding structures is going to get the hairy eyeball at a minimum and is likely to be met with intense resistance from numerous angles. If you can't go more than a few stories, does that change the value of the land based on what you could feasibly do with it and still get a decent ROI?
I'm curious what the disposition of that property will be in ten years and what costs will be associated with redeveloping it. We know it's too valuable to just sit unused.

Dude stop. I just got off the phone with the managing partner at A&R and those baws started popping the champagne and a couple even put in orders for new c classes for their side pieces following LaStupid's press conference. They are gonna FEAST.

They’re gonna feast on who/what?

It will be interesting to see if this council/mayor supports another height variance for this property. I've said before I think this property - and all property along canal - should fall under the zoning for the DDD, not the VCC. I would expect a huge fight from the preservationists to stop any variance or change of zoning. I think a lot of that will turn on what the eventual "fault" of this disaster is.
Any major development is going to require parking, which is going to severely limit the use of the property, if they can't go taller than 70 feet.

Normal L’s are forgotten. Big time L’s, like 28-3, are immortalized
Probably time to hang it up in this thread unless you want to be remembered

Claiming the height makes it unsafe is moronic. This is the VCC though.

Maybe they should try to go underground. Tgrbaitn08 could contract for it. Not only does he know it all, look how quickly he dug himself a hole in this thread.

What kind of self respecting lawyer would drive a c class?
Maybe for their daughters.

I’m curious to see if they think they can keep the parking garage. It’s poured in place concrete and from the pictures looks good. I don’t know if it would be good for redevelopment or not.

Of course, but they will jump all over the crane heights here.
You heard it here first.

I would say that the developer already has the variance, but I imagine all of that is null and void at this point.
