Parking on the side of a public road?

So we went kayaking up on the elk river in Tennessee yesterday and when we get back my buddy's SUV and several other vehicles had a note on them that it was private property and not to park there again.
But the road is a public road, we were on the right side of the road, there were no no parking signs, and were completely off the road yet still within ten feet of the road.
It was out in the country and basically a section of easement between the road and a farmer's field.
No law against that right? The farmer doesn't have the right to say we cant park there right?
I didnt see the note before.my buddy wadded it up, but I gathered it wasnt anything official.

Some roads don’t have an easement

Sounds like Farmer Bob wants to meet you at Sonic.
But don't do it. Farmers are usually tough motherfrickers.

Every road is different. No way of knowing what the ROW width of some random road in Tennessee is. Could even be a private road I dunno, sounds like you don’t either.

It’s still not your property.

Fire up the county GIS system and see where the Property line starts and the road R/W ends

That's why you always carry a can of orange paint and some stakes. You can get just about anywhere if they think you're a land surveyor

Cartoon in the 50's of a couple looking out their front door and seeing a farmer and his family having a picnic in their front yard.
Lady says "That's the farmer who owned the land where we had our picnic last weekend."
Aren't their public boat launches on the river where you don't have to possibly encroach on someone's land?

Do you own any acreage? I'm asking because I'm sometimes amazed at the sense of entitlement some people have (not saying you do) about their right to use someone's private land.
There were two brothers from West Texas who bought a number of large (10000 acres + on some tracts)Idaho land parcels from one of the large timber companies.
The timber companies had allowed public access, but the new owners did not. The hue and cray was awful "WHY WON'T YOU LET US USE YOUR LAND?" They sold some of the land (and the new owners didn't have the issue because it wasn't a large, well-publicized land transaction). They also allowed some very limited snowmobile activity on the land.

Instead of whining you should be thankful. Pretty sure he could have had your vehicles simply towed away for parking on his property without permission.

To my surprise, LA is one of the few states that have open access to parish/county property info via GIS.

I used the Tax Assesors GIS and the property l8nes were not precise. Is a certain layer more precise than the other.?

I’m not even sure you are serious here OP, you weren’t parked on the public road or the shoulder but you can’t understand how that is private? And no, most public roads parking is not legal anyway. You can’t simply park on a highway or interstate whether it is enforced or not is different.
