Video here.

English transcript of his Facebook post:

quote:

On Friday evening you stole the life of an exceptional person, the love of my life, the mother of my son, but you will not have my hatred.

I do not know who you are, and I don't want to know. You are dead souls.

If the God for whom you kill so blindly made us in his image, each bullet in my wife's body would have been a wound in his heart.

Therefore, I will not give you the satisfaction of hating you. You want it, but to respond to hatred with anger would be to give in to the same ignorance that made you what you are.

You would like me to be scared, for me to look at my fellow citizens with a suspicious eye, for me to sacrifice my liberty for my security. You have lost. Same player, same game.

I saw her this morning. At last, after nights and days of waiting. She was as beautiful as when she left on Friday evening, as beautiful as when I fell head over heels in love with her more than 12 years ago.

Of course I am devastated with grief, I grant you this small victory, but it will be a short term grief.

I know she will be with us every day and we will find each other in the heaven for free souls to which you will never have access.

Us two, my son and I, we will be stronger than every army in the world. I cannot waste any more time on you as I must go back to [my son] who has just woken from his afternoon nap.

He is only just 17 months old, he is going to eat his snack just like every other day, then we are going to play like every other day and all his life this little boy will be happy and free.

Because you will never have his hatred either.

Antoine Leiris

Eh, while I respect his position to not let his family be consumed by hatred, this type of mindset is not going to win over entrenched religious fanatics. But, he's just a guy trying to hold his life together.

You just can't win a war against a hateful sect of a religion with concepts like love and tolerance and forgiveness.

Sure you would, John Wick.

Also, he doesn't have to do anything because his country is kicking some fricking arse.

Love doesn't win over hate. I can appreciate his pain and however he wants to grieve is his business, but extreme violence is the only way you beat ISIS. You have to destroy them.

IMO... you are half way there... in other words, its not just that they "hate", its because they are willing to kill and think they are justified in doing so. It is at that point ( IMO ) that the rest of the world has to make a concerted effort to hunt such and remove them from the living. No different than the way we approach cancer cells in the human body.

I saw that and I think it is awesome. One of the best responses to ISIS yet.

It's not the tactics so much as the basis for me. A bunch of countries bound by vague notions of pluralism and tolerance and kind-of-freedom is not going to fare that well, IMO.

There needs to be something bigger at stake, as in a true threat to freedom, nationalism, religion, etc. You know, shite western nations are all trying to marginalize.

I hate to quote a TV show, but to some extent that Quinn blurb from Homeland:

"It's all in their book, their fricking book, the only book they ever read. They read it all the time, they never stop"

sums it up. They're way, way more committed than we are. We've obviously got more might, but the idea that we can all band together under a common flag of love is fricking dumb.

Words have power, and his empower him to move forward in life. It's a testament to his love of his family and not relinquishing hope in the face of fear to evil.

You're missing the point.

Our book is of peace, love, and culture. We want to promote the ideals of Western society, democracy - something that is for the sake of community, family, and friendship.

We respond with might and with strategy because we want to protect our ideals. But we cannot sacrifice those ideals for the sake of revenge or to satisfy anger. That is their tactic.

We would never send troops to Syria to shoot up a wedding or to drop a bomb on a school or to burn a funeral. They would. We won't.

And that's the biggest battle that is won when fighting ISIS ideology.

At some point, you have to make the decision whether you want to win in the ideological realm but still die (because that's what the "we're civilized" mentality gets you when you are fighting savages), or if you want to actually win.

Yeah, "we play nice because we're better people and we're civilized" has it's place. But at some point you have to take the gloves off, say "frick you", and start slitting throats.

I don't think the idea behind it is to let them walk free from any punishment. He is not a soldier - the "win" is to not let them instill the fear and mistrust and sacrifice the ideals of liberty.

I'm not missing the point at all. Western culture can't afford a society of people who will take the high road. Yes, our road will be higher than theirs, if that is your point, but I don't think that really answers much of the overall question.

As I said, I entirely respect the man's position and his attempt to shield his son from a life of bitterness. But while he's doing that, someone who can't afford to take that stance will be making the decision to send other men who've chosen a different path to fight fire with fire.

Those things were attained through violence. But again, my point isn't about tactics.

Do you think we've won wars because of those things? We've won wars because we either faced a nearly existential threat, or because we're fighting for America or religion or some amalgamation of such things in their purest forms. Pretty much every war fought for reasons other than those have been either arguable losses or quagmires of questionable purpose.

My point is that while I don't want a religious war or widespread jingoism, religion and extreme nationalism are going to be much more effective tools than "peace, love and culture" in fighting something like ISIS.

ETA: I didn't really mean to sidetrack your thread, I think it's an honorable approach from the guy in question. I just can't help but see people extrapolating his approach to policy, which is where it becomes a problem.
