Really? You never got in trouble for asking your parents if a friend could do something with you, in front of the friend and others? It is sort of disrespectful because you are putting them on the spot and they just asked that if I ever want to ask if someone can come over or whatever.. They just look at me and the friend and say "No, sorry, not this time. Maybe another night" and that was the end of it.

I never got in trouble for it, but my mom would tell me no in public and then tell me in private that I could have gone or a friend could have come over if I would have asked her privately and not put her on the spot.
