Based on how some people are acting in this thread, you should have been arrested with your child. For being a criminal and for raising one.
And no big deal if you would have been accidentally shot because your kid stole a candy bar.
No way any of these posters raised any kids who ever stole anything, whether it was incidental or intentional.
I find it hard to believe that even most cops would side with those posters. Minor things like this are the least of the average LEO's worries from day to day.

I have been on FB discussing this very issue with a Liberal Female. aged approximately 50 years old... And during the conversation, this is her view.
So she is bend of of shape because of the way the cops treated those people... And when I provided her with the same links that there is way more to this story, she did the usual Liberal thing in an argument. Called me a Racist, Sicko, Freak... and then unfriended me...
So I get called a Racist, Sicko, Freak by a woman who wishes and enjoys the killing of our police officers. WTF?
I just had to share this... and I don;t know why.. Perhaps maybe it's is this kind of thing that pushes me further and further away from the Democrats. I don't wish harm to anyone, of any color, for any reason... But yet I am the one that is called a Racist and insulted coming from a person that wishes death upon our nation's cops. Do these people really think that our country could function without some kind of law and law enforcement?

Haven't most of us done this as a small child, or at least known a sibling to? I know my sister stole some candy (or at least something in the vicinity of the cost of this $1 doll) when we were growing up. My mom chewed her out for it, made her return it, and that was that.
Justifying what these absolutely disgusting officers did just because someone's little girl did something mundane is pretty much par for the course for half of you mouthbreathers.
