First Communion few weeks ago. 45 minutes before service starts, church 35% filled but 98% of seats already "saved". I can relate to OP.
then i found a row, saved the whole row!

Saw it on the news, then I did a quick Google Video search. I always try to find a YouTube version of the event in addition to posting the article because the videos on news articles generally suck.

Went to a choir performance at an elementary school recently. My wife and I get there 30 minutes before the performance. We knew where my grand daughter would be standing, so we tried to get a seat accordingly. When we went to sit down a woman 6 seats away tells us the whole row is saved. So we end up on the opposite side of the audience from my GD. Five minutes after the performance starts, her family arrives. They file into the seats and then decide they don't have a good view of their child. So they abandon the whole row and find other seating. All this time they are disturbing others around them, blocking others view, but not in the least apologetic. My opinion, saving seats should not be allowed. A lot of people do it because the rest of their group didn't want to have to get there early to get a good seat. Screw that.
