Koch Bros (owners of GP) also working to replace American jobs with unskilled foreigners. It's why they hated TRUMP so much and loved open border cucks like Paul Ryan.

Pretty much, my nickname out there was Big Daddy. My father was in maintenance and he retired when Koch took over and offered the early out packages. Just so happened that I destroyed my lower back out there so I went to LSU for undergrad and grad school. My injury turned out to be a blessing in disguise. I am much better off today than I would have been had I stayed at the mill.

Do you live in Zachary? Do you see that area getting hit hard by this?

I live in Denham Springs, and yes, the Zachary area will be heavily affected in my opinion.

What I don't get with this whole situation, is why the mill invested a sh!tload of money into the assets they just announced closure of during the annual shut this past Oct/Nov of last year???? Makes one wonder how that makes walking around sense, but I'm sure they all will sleep well tonight.

Sorry bro, frick that POS. Golden parachute I'm sure....for one of the biggest POS's I've ever met on the planet, SMGDH. I know a bunch of others who feel the same exact way
He was a horrible manager with horrible people skills.
The week he was hired, we had a meet and greet and he told everyone present that he'd be the last manger at this mill, because if he didn't get us turned around, they were shutting the doors.
Well, he was partially right.

Yep, sounds just like that arrogant mf'er.

Yep.... I was involved with several projects inside the plant. In the last 18 months, GP had brought in quite a few corporate reliability people to revamp several areas of the plant and dropped considerable money doing it. Doesn’t make much sense now

Sorry to hear that some of you could possibly be affected. That will certainly hurt that area. I hope everything works out for y'all.

My dad has worked in this unit for 30+ years, and I remember him telling me about this meeting. He thinks the guy is a complete joke and fraud.

Y'all better be with Arkansas EPD/EPA breathing down y'alls back as well as getting C3 running like it should and pulling some pulp to make bleached board

Thanks man. If C3 doesn’t start running better we will be next.

Not laughing at the shut down. Laughing at the wording. Do they have an OCC plant for paper stock to continue production without a pulp mill?
Posted on 1/10/19 at 5:48 pm to HogBalls

I'd be concerned, but the bleached board capacity/product mix should keep y'all afloat from this type of situation for the foreseeable future. That mill = Crossett, AR, so everyone there should have vested interest to make things happen.

Do you even TAPPISAFE, bro?
Only GP Plany on Tappisafe is GP Crossett, alliance runs the training for GP PH. So you get to take the basic twice to go to Port Hudson. I got more Tappi cards in my truck than I care to count

No, OCC is for recycled brown paper board. This is a fully bleached pulp facility making fine paper (copy paper) as well as tissue/towel. OCC does not have a place in this product mix.

Should also say that post consumer waste paper (the white brand of OCC/from paper shreading ops) doesn't work here either due to the fiber properties needed for premium tissue/towel. Lots of tissue is made with post consumer waste, but this is what you see in public facilities (the notorious "John Wayne" toilet paper...rough/tough don't take sh!te off no one). To make premium tissue/towel grades, a premium virgin fiber must be utilized...hence softness and absorbency characteristics. The best softness on toilet paper comes from specifically designed machines using typically eucalyptus pulp from South America due to fiber properties that no other wood species in NA has. Hence the shutdown of the backend of mill, because they can only substitute so much fiber to make the quality needed for the premium brands they are making.
