AIDS was big, but the satanic scare was everywhere. All over the news and TV. I remember watching Unsolved Mysteries and half the murder mysteries were suspected of being satanic related. It was laughable.

Another panic was "pedophile in a white van" panic. Every kid believed some dude was running around in a van gonna kidnap them. This stemmed mostly from Adam Walsh's murder. He was a child who was kidnapped and killed by a stranger. His dad John Walsh kept it in the media constantly. (Walsh later became the host of America's Most Wanted). It is sometimes said that Walsh's murder was the beginning of the "overprotective parenting" stage that we still find ourselves in.
And every town had their own little spot in the woods, down by a river, in a graveyard, or in an old house where Satan worshippers all gathered. (In my town it was on an abandoned bridge). People would tell stories about driving down there and seeing Satan worshippers around a fire, doing rituals. Some people claimed the Satanists began chasing them. One girl from school claimed she and her friends barely got away - all the Satanists were putting their arms in the car trying to grab them (lol).
Of course, it was all made up BS, but as kids it was real to us, damn it.
