Mine is only two so I’m limited on some of the experiences, but you’ll never know a more softer, more gentle love when they’re this age.

For the last six months or so, my daughter has been obsessed with me. She is scared of every adult male who is not me and clings to me like I am her literal knight in shining armor. Literally chooses me over her mother most of the time. She’s starting to warm back up to her uncles and grandpa, but it’s wild that I’ve been such an integral part of her experience these last few months.

That’s not even counting the baby dolls I’ve dressed and changed and the bows in my hair- all willingly and wonderfully.

My brother has a boy and he and his wife are having their second in January and are not finding out and I’m pulling so hard for it to be a girl just so he can experience what I’ve experienced so far.

First thing you should do is drop the cringe "girl dad" lingo. Guys have had daughters since the beginning of time; there was never a need for a new special term until poor people started making up new names for their kids to sound special and unique.

Hold a newborn with its ear over your heart.

The baby heard your wife's heartbeat for 9 months so the sound of yours will be familiar and comforting.

This is good advice. Skin to skin is a real thing, especially since this is your first.

I took my shirt off to hold/rock/feed her the first few weeks of her life and had a blanket on top of her. The warmth of your body is more soothing to them than their clothes. Clear your mind and stay in the moment with her and there is some powerful bonding for both of you.

No shite. I Wouldn’t have thought of this.

Not too bad until the teen years then all hell breaks loose.

Every time my son gets a little grumpy or cops teenaged attitude, my wife goes "Well it could have been worse, we could have had girls".

That’s about it. Especially seeing that the sons are step sons. They will be hypersensitive to it.

Congrats man. Teach her Krav Magas two go tos. Nut shots and eye gouges.

I have 2 girls. They have a special relationship with their father unless you are a pos.

Just remember that you are setting an example for them by how you treat their mom on how they expect to be treated by their husband (or lesbian so).

Be kind and gentle but a hard arse when the situation requires it. And ask their boyfriends questions from the movie Airplane just to make them uncomfortable "Joey, have you ever been in a Turkish prison?"

So your first biological child is going to be a girl?

Oh man, I have daughters (after I warmed up on sons) and can’t imagine having them first. I think if that were the case I would have 1 and only 1 child.

Don’t let her do ballet. All sports can cause injury, but my kids broke their ankles and wrists over and over until they just had enough. It also costs a fortune, and anorexia runs rampant even in the pre-teen years.

Only two things you need to do: keep her off the pole and prevent mulatto grandchildren.

My one and only child is a girl.

She will never really know how loved she really is.

Now, at 12 years of age, she revealed that she knew Santa and her elf on the shelf aren't real and that Santa existed hundreds of years ago.

She revealed that she quit believing 3 years ago.

I have to say that it made me tear up and it broke my heart. That threshold has been crossed.

Then she said "So where are all my baby teeth."

I have a friend whose daughter was into ballet. Ended up with a foot injury that still hasn't fully healed.

Girls are easier to raise while under 13 and worse over 13. Expensive as hell also.

Start a college fund now.

Start a wedding fund now.

You won’t save enough.
But keep trying.

Be patient and spend time with her.

Good luck and congratulations!

I've tried to explain to my daughter that ballet will screw up her feet and cause life long pain.
