Single?

My recommendations would be Mtn Brook, Hoover, Homewood or Southside.

You could just move to the center of the college football universe in T-town but that is a hell of a commute back to the Ham.

is Mountain Brook the place to live

If you can afford it

Look at apartments in the southside area (Rojo, Highlands, Lakeview, Forrest Park, Glenn Iris), Homewood (be careful here, parts of Homewood are rough), and Hoover. Avoid North Birmingham, West Birmingham and East Birmingham.

If you end up on a street with a "SW" or "W" behind it, haul arse.

I would look around Highland Avenue. On the southside of Bham.

If you're looking to settle down with the wife and kids I'd say

Mountain Brook
Hoover
Vestavia
Trussville (Watch this one though as I see it going down the tubes in the next 10 or so years)

If you're single and looking for a "nigh life" scene.

Downtown
Homewood
Avondale

If you're looking for a good place to score meth or crack
Center Point
Roebuck
Woodlawn
Gate City
Bessemer

You need to move to Southside Birmingham then.

I'll only be here for 4 months tops living out of a hotel, so definitely not the issue.

Mnt Brooke is nice but more for well off, established famlies.
Homewood (where i currently live) and Highlands area are good. Homewood for younger famlies or singles, Highlands if u like the artsey stuff (nicer version of LSU Chimes area).
Been here 11 yrs and love it but bama fans do suck. Plenty of LSU fans though.

Might as well just bring an RV, since half his life will be spent on 280 sitting in traffic.

I live in Atlanta and would almost prefer ATL traffic to 280.

Kickball is starting to get big in Bham.

On tap, Innisfree on Thursday, several good restaurants in downtown/lakeview area. Avondale Brewery is cool, Courtyard 280 if you like to play pool/cornhole..

To be more specific here, South Avondale. You don't want any of North Avondale.

shite, I've lived in Atlanta and that traffic is awful. Lived on Peachtree and Piedmont and I could walk about a half a mile to Kroger and back before I could drive there during rush hour.

He's right. You'll want to try and avoid having to navigate 280 on a daily basis.

Depends how far you'd like to drive. I would suggest Homewood. You'll be basically in the middle of Vestavia, Hoover, Mountain Brook and downtown Bham. But a buddy of mine that lives here wanted to live around 5 Points South.

Sounds like u r a Southside/ Highlands kind of guy.
Homewood still an option - just avoid West Homewood. Anything near downtwn homewood or Samford Univ is great.
Only go down 280 area if u will be working that way. Traffic on 280 is a bitch.
Again, id say southside/highlands which is on the 'southside' of downtwn. Close to Barons, restaurants and bars.

280

is the bane of my existence. However, they just re did it so it's not as bad as it was when you were here. However, with those improvements came a cluster frick. You can't turn left onto 280 from certain intersections anymore. Instead you have to turn right, go down to the next exit, and get back on the other ramp. It's a pain in the arse.

frick Mt. Brook for complaining about the elevated road plan.
