"The issue is that when we’re talking about a disease that you treat biologically, psychologically, socially and spiritually," she said. "And when we have to distance ourselves for our physical health, our mental health suffers. That is a dangerous situation for people in recovery."

But if it saves one life...

It's not just a local thing. My younger cousin died of an OD last month - age 27. More people under 60 will die of suicide this year due to COVID than will die of COVID.

These are classified as Covid deaths to pump the numbers.

Shutting down 12 step meetings has been rough on addicts and drunks

For reference, COVID has "killed" 279 people in EBR. Overdoses have increased by about 50 for the year. And if you check the coroner's site, we are actually at 132 overdoses with 21 needing to be confirmed. So we have surpassed 2019 already.

The net positive of actual COVID deaths is pretty close to zero if you add in suicides and account for the ages of the people who died assuming they would have died of something else soon anyway.

One of my employee's ex husbands is under suicide watch right now. He has nothing left because the shut down sped up a road he was down and he can't handle it.

We have yet to truly deal with the impact of the shutdown. The people who are going to end up in poverty and lose a ton of life expectancy along with the impact to those peoples' children... sad all around.

Imagine that....... Like it's been stated, the cure can be worse than the virus.

Wow I didn’t even think about the recovery meetings being shut down. So many people depend on those meetings to function. Absolutely ridiculous that they are taking these measures.

I would blame drugs and addiction before I blame social distancing.

No shite, this is a national trend and isn’t going to get better. Thankfully we helped out so many by tanking our economy and society

People who would or could have recovered from their addictions... didn’t thanks to social distancing rules that weren’t in place last year. That’s a fact. But if it makes you feel better to simply blame the drugs, go ahead.
