Good thread. Mental health is a far greater danger to our country than COVID. Obama care made it much more difficult to treat mental health with health insurance and it’s been a backwards slide ever since.

Wow I didn’t even think about the recovery meetings being shut down. So many people depend on those meetings to function.
Baton Rouge has an “older” than most city recovery community but it’s done surprisingly well at adapting to zoom meetings for AA. That said, a video conference AA meeting Is very difficult for anyone in early recovery. It’s more familiar faces catching up than anything

AA meetings are as much about just showing up as it is the content of the meeting. Getting out of the house and making yourself accountable to just physically go to the meeting is half the battle. Zoom meetings are fine but doesn’t touch the real thing. All about accountability imo and in my experience.

They are fricking awful in my opinion
I’ve pretty much stopped dialing into zoom meetings, I end up getting more frustrated with Bob or Carol trying to figure out their audio feedback than help from the actual meetings

I heard Trump’s stimulus checks were responsible for all of the OD deaths

Who cares if young healthy people OD from the despair of unemployment, we must protect the morbidly obese and octogenarians

Hold up OT. Isn't this where we say it's better off that these druggies are dead anyway? Has C19 made you all soft?

Grandma’s life lasting 9 more weeks >>>> drug addicts getting clean and getting a job and becoming self sufficient.

Did I mention that grandma is alone for those 9 weeks anyway with no one allowed to visit her. What a great ending.

Some people say I lack empathy, so you can imagine what this statistic means to me.

True. Tons of places keep closing permanently. That hasn’t slowed down.

It’s early in the thread, the “let all the addicts and alcoholics die Bc of their choices” crowd hasn’t got here yet

I mean, for the early part of covid, I was working entirely from home, living alone, never seeing my friends or my family, couldn’t see my therapist, couldn’t go to church, all of my hobbies canceled, and nothing to do all day but eat, drink, and binge watch mindless television. I have been going through repeated ups and downs and had many many near suicide attempts. The isolation is real for a lot of people.
