The nature of churches makes it far easier for the groomers to do their work.

Anywhere there are kids, you'll find pedos.

Nature of church? Last time I went to church 30 years ago, they required background checks and such to work with kids.

The organization doing the background checks are comprised of a majority of people who self identify as Christians...how is a groomer gonna rat out a groomer??? It is all part of the curtain....

The church teaches morality based on the word of god as expressed through his son Jesus from whom the church was founded.

If the priests who do the teaching are buggering kids sexually then it’s only natural to ask who knew about it and what was the corrective action?

We know that there have been priests moved around to get them out of trouble. That’s horrific; But did it end there? If it’s found that knowledge of the corruption went all the way up to the pope(s) then it begs the ultimate question of whether this is the church that Jesus founded?

Forgiveness is a huge part of the Christian faith.
As a human being, We’re all flawed to varying degrees. There’s a lot we can and should forgive. Where do we draw that line though.

We see these moral leaders called priests as somehow above sin but they aren’t. They’re flawed too. The question is where the collective will draw that line… Buggering children is a tough one to forgive. It’s a betrayal on levels hard to express.

So, please Forgive me if I have trouble providing that forgiveness to those that preach forgiveness while abusing our children in ways generally considered the most offensive way possible.

Are you trying to break up the militant atheist circlejerk?

I'm just trying to figure out how this worked.

Did the religious orders send these brothers to parishes for some kind of residency? And if the pastor busted one of them being a creep, and wanted him away from his parish, did the independent order just step in and say they'd handle it without the diocese having further input?

The article says the dioceses publicly identified some of the creeps before the investigation began, so they had at least documented who were known problems, which I find interesting if the creeps truly weren't accountable to them.

This is interesting. You hate religious groomers, but will defend the groomers on your political team.

I can't wait to read more entries from you.

JK, I'm not surprised in the least.

These are numbers all the way back to 1950.
This is what I'm wondering but I'm certainly not going behind a NY times pay wall- were these recent abuses or stuff that happened 40-50 years ago just coming to light and now the priests that committed these crimes are now dead?

Gonna need to see proof of this. The problem with the church is repeat offenders because of them covering it up.
