It's always the same cycle. I don't really get it. Both of the following can be true:

1) Exotic game hunts can aid conservation efforts and encourage local populations to crack down on poachers (because $$$$), thereby becoming a net good for wildlife.

2) The people who go on exotic game hunts are probably complete fricking douchebags who deserve our ridicule for their douchiness

This. Besides, she had to open a BIG check book to do this. A lot of that money will go to stop pouching animals over there.

The meat will not be wasted nor anything else. So, I call that a win win.

That honestly sounds like a cheap cop-out for people who were totally ignorant on conservation before attacking the hunters and just don't want to admit wrong.

You base your determination on their douchieness on nothing other than the action you admit is a positive thing. That doesn't make much sense.

Or do we just assume people with money are complete douchebags?

It doesn’t matter. Instead of thinking for yourself and deciding if you personally agree or disagree with something it will either be defended or shamed based on what your “tribe” or side tells you to think.

I'm sure it was super intense. The giraffe probably even came up to the truck. What a sport.

Well that's a neat hypothesis, it just doesn't make any sense.

The idea that conservation-centric hunting is a net positive but the people who partake in it (and love to have natives drive them out and to shoot a non-sporting animal so they can pose with it on facebook) are douches isn't a particularly hot take.

No, it's not that people with money are douchebags. It's that people who get off on killing old giraffes are douchebags.

I don't think the people paying for these hunts are in it for the conservation aspect. I could be wrong.

I was just laughing at the juxtaposition in the article.

Sometimes it's hard to tell if these clowns do that on purpose or just out of ignorance. Obviously some groups are going to play up the status of a species to garner outrage, but some of these fools just read one source or talk to one person and start throwing out terms without understanding them.

The term "endangered" has to be one of the most overused words when talking about species conservation.

This isn’t a zoo.

Do you honestly think that animals are docile in the wild?

No, it didn’t attack them. The shot was probably from a distance, but don’t act like it was eating out of her hand.

You’re smarter than that. You are just letting your emotions dictate your stance.

Giraffes have incredibly keen eyesight, exceptional hearing, and a very cautious disposition, combined with his height, definitely give the advantage to him and not the hunter.

Shot placement is the tricky part....there is skill involved no matter what you say or think

I'm sure you think that's how deer hunting works as well because you saw deer eating out of someone's hand in the subdivision

Nobody expected you to admit it.

You even have to frame it a certain way to impart extremes. "get off on killing old giraffes" could replace any hunting activity based the emotionality of it, not on any facts.

"People who jizz in their pants by killing poor sweet innocent Bambi deer are douchebags."

Does that statement work on you?

You'd be very wrong. These hunts are often booked through organizations like Safari Club International who's mission is "Protecting hunters' rights and promoting wildlife conservation"

No idea as to this individual, but some of the large hunter groups are some of the biggest conservationists.

I think there is zero sport involved. None.

Shooting a lion is pretty low, but far more sporting than a damn giraffe.

ETA - you're right about how smart I am, but you don't know shite about my emotions.
