The fact that this total piece of shite has injected himself into the issue makes me want to go shoot some giraffes.

Honestly, I would love to do an African safari some day, but there is a fine line on animals I would like to take. I have no desire to shoot anything that would not be able to be eaten by the locals which pretty much just leaves plains game antelope and the Cape Buffalo for me. I would have a hard time pulling the trigger on an elephant, rhino, hippo, or any of the cats even if all of them were cleared to be shot for management purposes.

I don't know about big cats, but elephants, rhinos, hippos, and giraffes almost certainly get eaten by the locals.

If no one was paying up to take down this giraffe, then the guide would probably take him down himself and the meat would go to the same places.

That said, paying exorbitant amounts to "hunt" a giraffe just doesn't sound appealing to me. And I grew up hunting plenty of different game.

That video is almost exactly how I have killed deer. I go to the area where we believe they may be because of tracks, scrapes, etc then I wait in hopes of one coming along. How is that any different than what they just did?

You and a few friends and a couple lap dogs drive into a field, power walk a few hundred yards, then shoot a deer?

I'm skeptical.

I don't know about big cats,
same, not sure about Lions but I know Mountain Lions here in the US are excellent table fare

Although soccer moms have effectively banned the hunting of them in some places because they see them as bigger versions of their sweet, Mittens

When I have gotten into a stand / tree, I have 100% had deer dead stare at me while I move around to try and get my shot.

More like I slowly walk a few hundred yards, sit on my arse for a few hours, and then shoot a deer.

Yep. Fwiw, I feel the same about some trophy deer programs in the states. I think you're kind of a douche for partaking, but I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

Went back and read the article... Still don't agree with it... People will find any way to justify something. So it cant breed? Its killing young bulls? Oh, let me go kill it for you because I have a frick load of money! Nah... how about we just call it mother fricking nature and leave it alone. The fricking tribes over there would eat anything... that doesn't mean im going to go kill some dogs or cats over there for them to eat.

For starters, they're far more suspect. You don't drive up to them in a field with 2 other guys and a couple of lap dogs and take one down.

That's about as challenging as a deer drive. Or hunting deer with dogs.

Seriously. It takes the same level of skill...none. All you are doing in both cases is pushing the deer into a position to shoot them. You didn't study that animals behaviors or habits. You didn't pick out a location between bedding and food.

Nitpicking the method in which someone takes an animal, so long as it's legal, is nothing but moral posturing.

referring to high fence operations or free-range heard management where people try to only kill the mature bucks so that they can express their full antler potential?

Hell, I have been in the marsh were we start a fire then go down wind and wait for deer, rabbit or nutria to run out.

That's different and you know it.

Those dogs in the video aren't hunting dogs. Come on man.

I am not sure of the giraffe population in this area but that is the exact situation that has happened with some endangered black rhino herds.

When you only have a few breed-able males and a sterile male will kill them, wouldn't it be wise to remove the sterile one so that the species can thrive?

If some American wants to pay exuberant amounts of money to the locals to do so; even better
